About this listen

After many years working around the world for an international charity in the late 1960s, Eleanor Trewynn has retired to the relative quiet of a small town in Cornwall. But her quiet life is short-lived when, due to her experience, the Commonwealth Relations Office reaches out to her to assist in a secret conference that is to take place in a small hotel outside the historical village of Tintagel.

Meanwhile, her niece, Detective Sergeant Megan Pencarrow, is investigating the disappearance of a local solicitor when she is assigned to help provide security for the conference. Two African students, refugees from Ian Smith's Rhodesia, arrive for the conference, escorted by Megan's bête noire from Scotland Yard. They are followed by two mysterious and sinister Londoners, whose allegiances and connections to the conference and the missing solicitor are unclear. With a raging storm having trapped everyone in the hotel, the stage is set for murder, and it's up to Eleanor and Megan to uncover the truth before more lives are lost.

Enjoyable, and easy, listening! I enjoy the healthy, loving and respectful, relationship between Eleanor and her niece, Meagan.
For others that like to know things like this before purchasing: While there is some cursing in the book, there are no f-bombs.

We NEED More Cornish Mystery books

I really enjoyed the Daisy Dalrymple series but I find that I do not enjoy Ms Dunn’s other books as much. Perhaps she tired of the character or felt that she had exhausted the potential for new adventures. However as a reader I tend to feel a friendship towards the protagonist in various series and resent losing them to new characters so I am probably being unfair to this book but this is my review for what it’s worth and I probably would not suggest it to a friend.

Too much time spent describing the country side

I enjoyed this cozy mystery. there were a few minor plot points I was confused about in the beginning. I didn't mind the slower pacing because I was invested in the characters.

cozy mystery for bedtime

I so enjoy reading this series. it's lovely 'meeting' familiar characters in the story and I always enjoy the uexpected twists in the tale. well written. spent delightful hours driving in slow moving peak traffic, working on my oil painting, cooking, baking cleaning etc while listening to the antics of Eleanor and her community.!!!!!!

I love the imagery, it felt as though I was in the Cornish countryside as I listened. the great attention to detail leaves you without any loose ends, and the characters are charming and well developed.

Such detailed storytelling!

I love these books, and by now the people have become friends. Yea for cosy mysteries. One question, Why must the leader of the police it seems in most cosies be so....... although he was a bit nicer in this one.??

Get to know and love the people, love the reader!

I’m not a fan of car chases for their own sake, but this was so well written, and suspenseful, rather than gratuitously speedy. I listened twice to get all the details.

The characters are complex and delightful. I hope there will be more in this series.

The best car chase
