loved it!

Burned

Ok I loved this book. It's going on my list of repeat listens. I am the type of person that can listen to the same book a few plus times if it's good.
Burned was very well written, and the characters are extremely likable, and not one sided. And a few are just down right funny.
The story starts off fast paced and doesn't stop till the end. It seems very time I thought I knew who was guilty, I was wrong! It definitely leaves your mouth watering for the next book!
The narrator was great, she really brought the characters to life. even with all the different voices she had to do.
This book is worth the read. ( or listen)

Never go home empty handad!

Well chalk another one up the the badass female that sure is cocky without her powers. As this one goes, it really was suprisingly good. I have read a lot of this genre and can not wait for the next one. Yes, I will read the series just to find out if the power she has harnessed gets back to her.

Starts out with her doing her job for the covert agancy she works for and somehow wakes up in Philly with shackles on her wrists. Yes, these are the things that drain her power. So, with no job or bank accounts open, she goes and finds her freinds that she used to hang out with. Old lover, sex pot and a quirky guy.

She goes to work for the mob that wants to find a stolen airloom and all sorts of perils happen along the way.

Read the book to find out what happens.

A New Series With Some Potential

Alyse Winters is a powerful djinni who works for a paranormal organization. Alyse is given a burn notice, (just like the TV show “Burn Notice,”), for reasons not revealed. She is then stripped of her djinni powers and dumped in Philadelphia. There are some of the same old clichéd things that you see in urban fantasy books with female leads. Namely, the wise ass, I’m smarter than the room personality. I’m personally bored with that, but it seems to be an unwritten rule that female leads must have this personality trait in urban fantasy novels.

Stripped of her powers, Alyse is the equivalent of a normal human woman. After being a member of one of the most powerful races of beings on the planet and living every day relying on your natural powers to do things, one would think there would be some sort of mental period of adjustment, when those powers are taken away, but there isn’t in “Burned”. Alyse just moves forward in the story like nothing ever happened to her. She’s even cocky when dealing with other supernatural beings who could wipe the floor with her in her present, powerless state.

Without her powers, Alyse now has to do some old fashion detective work to figure out the murders that are going on in the book. One would think that should make her wise ass, smarter than the room, personality shine, but Alyse just kind of stumbles through the thinking parts of the story. She definitely does not have any kind of detective chops or strong deductive reasoning skills. However, she does have plenty of confidence in herself as she goes up against supernatural beings she shouldn’t possibly be able to handle as the equivalent of a human woman. Although she does get knocked out a time or two, Alyse seems to slickly get out of confrontations that should have killed her. There is a certain appeal to that.

“Burned” is a fast paced, enjoyable novel with room for improvement. Narrator Carly Robins does a lot to help this book. She has a pleasant sounding voice with a great delivery that brings the authors words to life. I also like that she distinguishes different characters by doing different voices. Not every narrator out there puts in that kind of effort.

In spite of what I consider weaknesses in the story, I actually liked book one of this series. It wasn’t five star great for me, but I did like it and would hang in at least through book two when it comes out. She is without power, touch of romance.

Burned
A Magic Bullet Novel, Book 1
By: A. Blythe
Narrated by: Carly Robins
I wish this showed what all she could do before or after clearing up the murder mix up. She has to solve the murders as a human. She has to rely on others to help out. I was a bit disappointed at first but as the book continued I started liking it more. There is some interesting aspects to this world and the fantasy therein. Interesting plot. The main character is not a person I came to really love but more tolerated.
The narration was good.
Would I listen to it again if I knew what I know now? Yes, it is worth a listen. It is enjoyable but be patient in the beginning.

Awesome narrator, strong female main character! :)

I love urban fantasy, and love reading about all kinds of supernatural beings. Somehow, I had never read a book involving a djinni before. Alyse is a djinni, and her powers end up "suspended" by a pair of magic cuffs. I really liked the characters in this book, especially Alyse. I love a super strong, sassy, and smartass main character. The author did a great job with the world building. There were other supernatural creatures in the story, and they were all described very well also. Alyse finds herself in the middle of a string of strange murders involving some of those creatures. I would describe this book as an urban fantasy mystery story. The narrator of the audiobook was Carly Robbins. She was fabulous as Alyse, and was absolutely perfect with the smartass attitude! I definitely recommend the audiobook version for anyone interested in the story. I really enjoyed this first book of the series, and I hope the next audiobook is released very soon!

Very Exciting

I received this book free for an unbiased review. This book was great. I really enjoyed the predicament Alyse was in with the loss of her powers. The strong female character without her powers is very sexy. The author, A. Blythe, does a great job of creating the characters and writing a solid story. The narrator, Carly Robins, did a great job of distinguishing the characters and letting their personalities show. After I finished, I looked for the next book, but I guess it hasn't been released yet in this series. This book gives you suspense, thrill, a touch of romance (small touch) and is a semicomplex read without being confusing. There is quality to this writing. Looking forward to more of Alyse. I hope in the next book we see Alyse in a more expanded form, with her powers.

Djinni CIA Agent is Burned - 3.5 Stars

Alyse is a powerful djinni who works for the Djinni equivalent of the CIA trying to protect other djinn. While on assignment, something happens and Alyse ends up having her powers bound by golden cuffs and on her way to a city in the United States without memory of how she ended up there. And no memory of what she did to deserve to be burned.

She leans on a few loyal friends to help her survive without her powers or access to her bank accounts. While trying to find out why she was burned, she also has to help clear her name for a string of recent murders.

I found this story to be entertaining and a different take on the typical fantasy story. The narration was also very well done.

I had high hopes

You're thrown into the action with no back story. The djinni looses her powers before you understand her capabilities so you're left with a vanilla main character surrounded by shifters and demons whose abilities are are subtly revealed. The story is boring and unbelievable. How many times can you knock out your main character before she suffers brain damage? Why is copper the djinni's kryptonite?
