About this listen

The Dragon King is looking for a wife.

This news throws the women in my village into a tizzy. The king will be sending out the royal guard to bring women of childbearing age to his castle in Jade City.

There is only one requirement: The woman must carry enough magic to produce an heir for him.

I’m a watered-down human with a mere 10 percent dragon magic lineage, I know I won’t be chosen, but for some reason the magic sniffers command me to present myself to the king as a possible wife.

I’m ready to go to Jade City until my mother tells me a terrifying secret. A secret that could get me killed… by the king himself.

This is a full-length fantasy romance stand-alone with an HEA!

How strong the female character

I like this book usually when I read a book, I can predict how it’s gonna end and this one had a wonderful ending and I didn’t even see it coming book

Just okay

I really enjoyed the beginning of this book as it gave me paranormal and Game of Thrones vibes, similar to Leia's other work. However, the ending seriously started to annoy me! 😂 Warning: spoilers ahead. I didn't like the fact that Drae would even consider sleeping with multiple other women for the chance of a child without trying to have a child with Arwen first. Although he didn't go through with it, he waited until the very last moment, and that just didn't sit right with me. He definitely loses points for that. In my opinion, he is not book boyfriend material! 😂 I listened to the audiobook because I absolutely love the narrator, Vanessa Moyen, and I think that made the book more enjoyable. Overall, it's not my favorite book by Leia Stone, but I am interested in continuing the series to see if it improves.

Narration problem

Although Vanessa did a good job at narration, didn’t expect her to narrate the whole book in it’s entirety until Adam narrated the very last synopsis after “The End”. It was so good to listen to that very minuscule part of Adam’s ever so deep and sexy voice, I can’t for the life of me figure out why he was not used throughout the book (Bad decision). The storyline was interesting and kept me actively listening and wondering why Adam had not narrated any of it. I’m giving the book 5 stars ⭐️; however, not happy at all about omitting Adam from narration, it would have been so much more enjoyable to listen to.

Narrators Great! Ending Rushed :/

The plot is great, and there are parts where the pace of the story was just right, but there are some points that feel rushed. I think there is enough story that this could have been a longer book, and really given more of the relationship developments btw the two main characters. I feel like the entire “falling in love” part was glossed over and the HEA was squeezed into a single chapter. If you want a quick listen then this will be great, if you prefer longer stories with all the details, this book is not for you.

Interesting single POV

This book has good world building and character development. I liked the story until the last part of the book. I felt like the ending was rushed and I was disappointed with how some of the issues were resolved.

Narration was good, except I felt listing Adam Gold as one of the narrators was false. He only read less than 10 minutes at the end. I would have been less disappointed if I knew this book was single POV with one narrator.

Otherwise the story was entertaining.

This was a solid YA fantasy romance. I enjoyed the characters and story line. The MMC made some questionable decisions due to his title and responsibilities, that I didn’t know if I was going to be able to get over, but it all worked out in the end. I really liked the FMC, she was strong and provided for her family, then had to make some hard decisions about love and duty. I liked that the FMC was the true heroine in this story! I’m looking forward to the other stories and kingdoms in this series!

Thank you Leia Stone, Sourcebooks Bloom Books and NetGalley for the ARC! These were all my own words and opinions.

Innocent but packed with emotion and action

Dragons, love, war, forgiveness, a strong woman and real emotion. An easy read. Would recommend to any young reader. I liked that there were plenty of life lessons and reminders to just be a good person throughout this story.

Has potential

I gave a 3 for performance. The narrator was good but I felt like it was being read too fast to be enjoyable so I had to slow it down to 8.5. Also I felt the narrator and main character had different energies or vibes.

The story was good for a YA writing but for me I expected a little more character development and better conflicts/conflict resolution.
