Critic reviews

"Burke's outstanding mystery series featuring Cajun detective Dave Robicheaux...has catapulted him from a well-reviewed if somewhat obscure author to a writer of best sellers....Reader Will Patton adds another star to his already superb resume with a fantastic reading." (Library Journal)

still a good combo

I just got these to add to my audio books. I had read them already ,of course, as I had read a all of the wonderful James Lee Burke books. To have Will Patton read to me is just the best.

Abridged 5 star book TOO SHORT

i got this book because of Will Patton's narrating an excellent of book by James Lee Burke. I feel cheated of Will not reading the whole book. The best book read by the best Narrator. Hay out there why didn't Will Patton read the whole book? The writer writes to books, the Narrator brings the book to life.

Great author and narrator

James Lee Burke tells a great story with his words and Will Patton brings it to life with his narration.

Ok, but Abridged it leaves holes

Again, after reading Tin Roof Blowdown, which is 5-star, I went back to read these earlier JLB / Robichaux audiobooks.

Up to this one, they are all abridged, and the editor did a lousy job.

many holes in story line, motives, etc.

Editor chose to leave all the bayou descriptives in and cut all the story line.

I would still rate it average; if you like JLB and Robichaux, this was one of the better stories.....

Reader, Will Patton, fabulous as usual!!!

Overall slight thumbs up.

Take Note: This Is Abridged

It's my own fault. I didn't notice that this is the abridged version of this book. I don't know who ever thought it was a good idea to rip out most of a story but you are cheating yourself ( and being cheated by Audible ) if you waste a credit on this.

Abridged for audio

Why abridged for audio? Evidently this is Will Patton's first reading of this series. His later readings are far, far better. I don't know if the story was incomplete because it was abridged or if that was the way it was written, Do not judge the series if you are unlucky enough for this to be your first book; listen to one of the later Patton readings in which he truly has developed his character's voices.
