Publisher's summary

When civilization collapsed, evil rose to power: In the deep recesses of solitary confinement, a wickedness emerges to defile what is left of humanity. With society coming to its knees, the opportunity is right for a terrible army to claim the world as their own and inflict upon it the same pain they received in life.

The After War series continues. This is the story of a monster.... This is the story of Karl Metzger.

Butcher Rising is the second novel in the After War series. It is advised to listen to them in order, however, they can be listened to independently of each other if desired. Both audiobooks work as stand-alone novels.

A new concept.

When I first started listening to this second book of the series I was dumbfounded I didn’t understand why am I hearing the same story as the first?
Then all at once it all fell in place, it was the same story from a different perspective , it was from the bad guy eyes and mind ( a lot of psychology ), the author Brandon Zenner almost was able to show that there is no good or bad only people who want to survive in different ways.
And then the story continues so perfectly.
This is a totally new concept for me, I’ve never seen a story told so beautifully.
Even the narration by James Romick was right on and flawless.
What made me sad and happy is that the story is not over, another book must be on its way, it’s the waiting part which is hard but what a joy it will be when it will come out !!!

Absolutely no question about it, this book is full heartedly recommended for all.

In exchange for an honest review I’ve received this audiobook.

A dark dystopian story.

This breaks the mold in the traditional form of storytelling, where as the bad guy is the lead character. It was fascinating to learn more about Karl Metzger's origins. This was a great follow up to the first book in the series, but I can see this as a solo novel. They don't have to be listened to in order to understand the story.

Great post-apocalyptic series.

Although this is the second book in the series, it acted as its own narrative. This is a dark and realistic dystopian story, and frightening in that it displays the worst of humanity. We see the bad guys rise to power, and how easily people can turn corrupt. I'm eager to start the next book in the series.
