About this listen
It has been a busy few weeks for Private Kaylin Neva. In between angling for a promotion, sharing her room with the last living female Dragon, and dealing with more refugees than anyone knew what to do with, the unusual egg she'd been given began to hatch. Actually, that turned out to be lucky, because it absorbed the energy from the bomb that went off in her quarters.
So now might be the perfect time to leave Elantra and journey to the West March with the Barrani. If not for the disappearances of citizens in the fief of Tiamaris - disappearances traced to the very Barrani Kaylin is about to be traveling with....

"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Not my favorite
The plot line seemed all over the place. Too many concerns at once. Plus, I got lost in the details. I had trouble following what was happening and why. I really like the series, but this particular book, not so much.

Phenomenal work
So far, all of the series I have read have been well presented and very thought provoking. As an older adult I wonder if I could have dealt with life's bigger problems with the problem solving methods that Kaelyn used. If I had I wonder what my life would be now. These works by Sahara can lead to many meaningful discussions. thanks for the insights.

One of my favorites!
If you could sum up Cast in Peril in three words, what would they be?
Intense, exciting, suspenceful!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love the dragons, but they weren't involved in this story all that much. My favorite character throughout the series has been Lord Nightshade. I think we will start to see more and more as to why he is the way he is, and I think it has to do with why he is outcast. I am not going to be able to wait another year for the next one to come out.
What does Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She is EXCELLENT! I am amazed at how well she can keep her character voices throughout the book. You always know who is talking throughout the book. I am actually trying another series just because of her.

Loved it
I really love this series! I want the next one (Cast in Sorrow) now :)
Narrator - as always - wonderful job!
Story - I was really hoping to actually get to the West March but we don't in this book - though we do get to find out what is in the egg (I so want one). We get some really good back ground info on a couple people but alas we only get part way to the West March.
If you are this far along in the series you, like most everyone will enjoy the story as much as I did.

I love this storyline, but...
I love this storyline, the characters are enchanting and real. I enjoy how descriptive and rich the writing is. And because I am so emotionally invested in this protagonist, it drives me crazy that the author deliberately presents her as an imbecile at times, one who doesn't show growth as a way to enhanced the story even more. Instead of getting on with the story and furthering it, the protagonist will quibble over semantics with other characters and it drags the book out longer than it should. I don't know if there quibbling (different from the enjoyable banter if this book) your meant to be a plot device. If so, it fails miserably.
Rarely do I leave such detailed reviews, but when I do, it is only because there author has created a world in which I now reside. I am now irrevocably changed and bettered for having read/heard this story. I hope in torn my small observations might help in some way, any future writing.
Thank you for sharing this world and these characters and this story. 😊

Cast in Peril
I've been enjoying this series very much. It's very adventurous. I was a little bit disappointed in the predictable story plot. I am hoping for a bit more revealing storyline which explains why Nightshade has marked the Chosen one.

She did it again
Wow. This was my favorite of Michelle's stories so far.
I love the philosophies and character nuances that appear throughout the story. At times a touch of Zen, at times a touch of quantum theory. She somehow manages to weave multiple story lines together while keeping your hungry for more after you've finished listening to the whole story. Khristine does a great job by making all the characters come alive! I've fallen in love with her voices.
This book goes into more depth with some of my favorite characters (Tela, Lord Nightshade, the Lady, Severn) as well as bringing along new ones (our new female dragon and a little glass something or other). New marvels appear and I find myself thinking the story is going one way when BANG, off it goes in a different and even more interesting direction.
Hard to put down. Great book for long car rides or while exercising
