About this listen

**This is Robert's story before he became the Robert you know in the Forty Proof Series.**

In 1876, we were called to Savannah, Georgia to help with an infestation of demons. If we'd known what we, my wife Evangeline, and I, were walking into, we'd have run the other way.

As it was, we shared tea with a vampire and stepped into a battle we did not understand until it was too late.

On the night we arrived, Evangeline went missing, taken from our room.

Now, in a strange city, filled with demons, and monsters, I must find her before those monsters make her one of their own.

The only question that remains is one for you, dear listener.

Are you brave enough to come with me on this journey, my friend? It is not for the weak of heart, but for those who believe that love is always strong enough...and that a kind soul or two can make all the difference in your life as you face the darkness.

**You can listen to this novella WITHOUT having listened to any of the other books in the Forty Proof Series. Robert's story continues in Midlife Bounty Hunter**

I love Robert!

Robert has always been one of my favorite characters in this series. Getting this short insight into his past makes me feel like I know him so much better. After listening to this, I want to start the whole series over from the beginning. The narrator did a fantastic job.

horrible, horrible narrator!

The story was rushed and although it was somewhat in keeping with the series, it was almost an afterthought. I loved the other books but this one not so much. and honestly that horrible southern accent was like fingernails on a chalkboard! I could hardly listen to it. it was an hour long and it took me three different sessions just because I couldn't stand to hear the man's voice. now for the story again it was rushed. it basically showed us one day. it could have included a lot more history about Robert and Evangeline but it didn't. I was pretty disappointed in this one.

1883 meets supernatural

If your a fan of the Yellowstone spin off 1883 and like the paranormal fantasy you'll love this!! it's a quick listening too and the voice actor is amazing! Totally makes me want more and shows the tragedy of poor Robert and his Evangeline!!

Robert’s past fills in some blind spots for sure

Story and narrator were great and I just wish it was longer. Yes I realize it’s a novella, but I’m greedy with characters/series I love this much. 🤷🏼‍♀️ This short novella gave those of us who love this character and can’t get enough of him some needed backstory as to how he got into the situation where we first meet him in the cemetery. It gives insight to the connections to other characters, both good and bad & how he is tied to bringing the ritual full circle. ***Trying not to give spoilers, so just do yourself a favor & listen to it… this novella is frosting on a well crafted cake 🎂

love the back story!

I have read the entire 40 proof series, of which Robert, in his skeletal form, is a part of. I have loved them all, but often wondered who Robert was in life and how he became his skeletal form.

Shannon does a great job of giving us a glimpse of this in this short novella, helping the reader to understand a bit about who Robert was and the details of how he became who he is now. And if you are a 40 proof fan, you will recognize a few cameo appearances...

the only downside was the fake accent that the narrator had. I found it very distracting to the story.

Friend 💕

Robert is one of the best side characters ever. Despite knowing so little of him in the beginning, he quickly became a favorite. The more you learn about him, the better he gets. This was a great insight into his past. Forever the best friend

great story line but...

I really liked the story line but the narrator was a but hard to listen to. I found myself having to rewind and listen again. His voice was a bit monotone for my liking and I had a hard time focusing on what he was saying.

Nice Addition!

This is a nice addition to the series, telling the story of how Robert came to be. The voice acting is great, and the story, while short, is well paced. I like this character, and I'm glad to know his story! I always thought the MC should end up with him instead of that narcissistic, hot and cold fae king who can't make up his mind whether he's a hero or a villain. Robert always knew who he was. Friend.
