About this listen

Love - and murder - are in the air.

It took Joe Grey’s human, Clyde Damen, nearly forever to pop the question to his girlfriend, Ryan Flannery, and what more romantic time to tie the knot than on Valentine’s Day? But dark secrets from the past soon threaten to destroy everyone’s happiness.

First, a body discovered many miles away reopens a 10-year-old cold case involving a man who disappeared days before his own wedding. Then another body is found closer to home, on the grounds of a ruined estate, deserted save for a band of unusual feral cats.

Though the police investigate, only feline sleuth Joe Grey suspects that the crimes are related. And when he barely escapes alive from a deadly chase, Joe and his friends, Dulcie and Kit, know they’ll need to use their powers of feline perception to bring justice to the small town of Molena Point - and save Valentine’s Day!

Critic reviews

"Murphy’s gentle blend of fantasy and mystery includes revelations about her unusually verbal cat detectives sure to please series fans." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Solid…A quality mystery, with excellent pacing, ratcheting tension, consistent characters, and suitably nasty villains. The new developments in the story of the talking cats will please many series fans but may not make much sense to new readers. A must wherever the series has fans." ( Booklist)
"Murphy’s feline-loving fans will enjoy the latest in her long-running series." ( Kirkus Reviews)

New characters!

First, it’s great to have our Susan back narrating! You can’t have eleven books done perfectly and switch like that. I really tried to listen to the last two books but sorry,it was awful. Not his fault but Susan IS Joe, Dulce, Kit and the whole gang. It changed Joe’s very persona, didn’t like him, lol. Anyway, welcome back Susan Boyce! Oh, yeah, the story was great, enjoyed having new characters (they may have been introduced in past 2 books)and learning more history of the cats. Kit got to be center character with her “romance” with Sage. The Vet knew! Surprise! Intermingled is another fun mystery & Joe got himself in another bind. On to the next, I dread the last episode, will have to start all over!

Love is in the Air and Murder on the Agenda

Joe Grey's human, Clyde Damen and his girlfriend, Ryan Flannery are about to tie the knot (on Valentine's Day). Ryan's dad, Mike Flannery is in town for the wedding, and newly retired from the Federal Probation Office, he has decided to join Dallas Garza and the police department as a consultant. His first case turns out to be a ten year old cold case involving a missing person, Carson Chappell, the fiancée of Lindsey Wolf, who Mike Flannery had dated seriously some years after the death of his wife. For some reason, Lindsey believes that the skeletal remains of a man found in Oregon, some 500 miles from where Chappell was last seen may be the bones of Carson Chappell. To complicate things, another set of remains have been found closer to home in the garden of the old Pamillon estate. Strangely enough, that same week, ten years ago, Carson Chappell's accounting partner's wife, Nina Gibbs also disappeared. Could the two cases be connected? Joe Grey and Dulcie believe they are . . . But how? The two sets of remains are more than 500 miles apart? This installation in the series is a GREAT one, filled with the mystery of the magical cat clowder, the discovery of a long lost book, and an injured feral cat from the clowder, Sage, who Kit grew up with. The pull of the wild clowder life and memories of kittenhood with Sage almost undo the sweet Kit, Sage nearly dies after a horrible fight with Stone Eye, the leader of the clowder. The Molina Point veterinarian reveals to Charlie and the cats a secret that surprises them all. The investigation to the deaths of the two skeletons is very interesting and kept me engaged the whole time. And the details of the lives of all the folks in Molena Point, including the new entry of Mike Flannery are superb.

great and thought provoking

I loved it. The story kept me interested, and the exceptional cat character development generated many nods of agreement. smiles, and even some sighs. The performance was excellent. The touches of philosophy about love touched my heart.

Cute

Fun listen, quite creative . It’s funny to think of what pets think of humans, how we speak- how a cat would speak, think.

great story telling

I love this series and I am listening to the books in sequence. The narration is very good. The stories are very entertaining, written well with very likeable main characters and villians to despise. The cats are so loveable and fiesty.
