"A bold, edgy, accomplished debut!" (Kate Quinn, New York Times best-selling author of The Alice Network)

A forgotten history. A secret network of women. A legacy of poison and revenge. Welcome to The Lost Apothecary....

Hidden in the depths of 18th-century London, a secret apothecary shop caters to an unusual kind of clientele. Women across the city whisper of a mysterious figure named Nella who sells well-disguised poisons to use against the oppressive men in their lives. But the apothecary’s fate is jeopardized when her newest patron, a precocious 12-year-old, makes a fatal mistake, sparking a string of consequences that echo through the centuries.

Meanwhile in present-day London, aspiring historian Caroline Parcewell spends her tenth wedding anniversary alone, running from her own demons. When she stumbles upon a clue to the unsolved apothecary murders that haunted London 200 years ago, her life collides with the apothecary’s in a stunning twist of fate - and not everyone will survive.

With crackling suspense, unforgettable characters, and searing insight, The Lost Apothecary is a subversive and intoxicating debut novel of secrets, vengeance, and the remarkable ways women can save each other despite the barrier of time.

So...it’s not so much a mystery for you to solve...

While the story is not so much the type of mystery where you find yourself continually trying to solve it and being led to suspect one character after another of being the bad guy, it is more of a mysterious story that you are walked through. It’s quite enjoyable and the narration is great. It’s not so much suspenseful as just an interesting, well told tale.

Solid 3⭐️⭐️⭐️ novel

3 women...2 from the past and 1 from the present converge in London to discover their true identities and a passion for the future...a random discovery bring things from the past to the present. The audiobook is beautifully narrated in the 3 voices of Nella, Elisa, & Caroline.

Good Debut Novel

Sarah Penner premier novel is solid! Told in two time periods she mixes mystery and murder to create an engaging book. I love that she used 3 narrators. I look forward to her next book!

Enjoyable Read

Loved this book. The characters were 3-dimensional and the plot was interesting. I felt like this book could’ve gone on longer with more stories of the Apothecary and her customers. I can easily see a prequel or sequel to this book. I also enjoyed the dual storylines contrasting today vs 1790’s.

Half would have been more

The historical story and narrator where wonderful and would have made a fantastic novel on its own. The modern day story and narrator really weren’t that good. All in all, enjoyable.

Couldn’t put it down!

This was a book I could not put down!

The book is written as a parallel story line of Caroline in present day and Nella and Eliza in the 1700s. At first I was more interested in Nella and Eliza but both plots got real interesting quick and both with unexpected twist and turns.

Both stories are about women betrayed and the different ways they deal with it. Once woman finding herself and growing as a person, one woman as a serial murderer. A must read! The audible was well narrated.

Men Ain’t $#!+

This book had such a good story . There was no excess information and “boring” moments . I enjoyed the story line of the 3 main characters and how they connected even though they ALL were at different stages in life / centuries . This was a really empowering book to read as a woman . I even enjoyed the whimsical aspects .
