Publisher's summary

When local television news anchor Katherine Kyle is thrust into the national spotlight, it sets in motion a chain of events that will change her life forever.

Jamison "Jay" Parker is an intensely career-driven Time magazine reporter; she has experienced love once, from afar, and given up on finding it again.... That is until circumstance and an assignment bring her into contact with her past.

Kate and Jay's lives intertwine, leading them on a journey to love and happiness - until fate and fame threaten to tear them apart. What is the price of fame? For Kate the cost just might be everything. For Jay the price could be the other half of her soul.

Critic reviews

"Ames, much feted for her lesbian mysteries and romances, adds another to her record of successful storytelling. Narrator Emily Beresford provides a fully voiced performance of the two featured women. Kate and Jay first met during a skiing accident when Jay was in college. Now, a few years later, they're meeting again as Kate, a TV journalist, reports live from a state capitol bombing. The crush Jay felt that first time is still much alive, and Kate, happily, is feeling romantic now, too. Beresford effectively differentiates the two principals, as well as the wide range of secondary characters, by varying pitch and tone. Her pacing fits each scene, whether one of tenderness or camera-rolling chaos during news reporting. The first of a series, this audiobook, and its team of Kate and Jay, should find a welcome audience." ( AudioFile Magazine)

predictable

The story was good. Just a little too predictable. I would maybe read more of her books because I love romance, but it was just kind of too predictable

Enjoyable story

I enjoyed the storyline. It brought me through a range of emotions at various points. My only objection was the supposed New York accent which personally, as a New Yorker I found offensive. I have never heard any New Yorkers speak with that accent, even ones who do have a think NY accent. The rest of the narration was very good, enjoyable and the characters were easily identifiable.

Intriguing and interesting st

For a 2010 copyright there were some head scratching things like using the words "word processors " instead of computer or laptop, and a lack of cell phones and texting, but the presence of answering machines etc. I don't know why but I kept thinking this story must have sat on the shelf for a while.

I enjoyed the story, and a pretty rich background that was provided for each of the characters. There was enough adventure, but trail of every day life in an interesting way, and drama. I do at some point think I will get my fill of the knight in shining armor and rescued princess but perhaps book two will even things up a bit.

I am looking forward to more of these women

Cheesy and dated

I liked the characters but the verbiage and the dated references were hard to swallow.

thrilling and heartwarming

well I just finished listening a few minutes ago and all I can think about is finding the sequel because I want to hear more about Kate and Jay. also the sequel promises to have a betrayal by someone they both think highly of. so this is no book review just my quick thoughts before I go off in search of a sequel.

but one thing I should mention before I go. This is obviously set in the early 1980s. There are no cell phones and though there were car phones most people did not have one. it was a time when coming out as a lesbian would destroy your life. the way Lynn Ames handles this is wonderful and giving us a chance to understand how destructive sayings for at that time. even in the 1990s this was still an issue and this is when I came out as a lesbian and learned about it firsthand from Friends and experience. I found that portion of the book to be very fascinating.

Wish this Book had a different narrator

I absolutely LOVE this Book. I've read it and wanted to listen to the audio version since I commute to work. Lynn Ames is a favorite author of mine. The only thing that kept me from finishing the audio version is the narrator. I'm sure it was meant well but, the way she quotes the characters is very uppity (for lack of a better word) or over the top. I'm so happy I've read this book so that I know how amazing this story is. Lynn Ames will always be a favorite!

Loved it

I loved this book so much I immediately got the next one so I could continue to find out how Kate and Jay made out, I have to admit that it took me a couple of chapters to get into this but once I did I could wait to pick it back up

Wonderful

I’m excited to have a new couple to follow. I read them out of sequence, so it was fun to learn about them from the beginning.

Well written. You become immersed, as you should.

I’ve never heard of Emily Bresford (narrator) but you can bet I’m going to be on the lookout for others she has narrated.

In what world would anything like this happen?

Take superwoman. Remove her super powers. Give her a U-haul. That's one of the main characters.
Take a normal human. Give her the traumatic hero upbringing, and make her lucky right after disasters happen. That's the other main character.

Also make it feel like it's written by an idyllic child, but it's actually a grown adult.

And spend a good quarter of the time constantly dreading what could go wrong.
