About this listen

Two killers, one operating in America and the other in Europe, have chosen the FBI's Alex Cross as their prey. One is the megalomaniac Gary Soneji, Cross' nemesis from Along Came a Spider, who takes Cross on a train ride to hell. The other, Mr. Smith, spreads panic through Europe when he strikes London, then Paris. Mr. Smith has been eluding another agent, Thomas Augustine Pierce, and now Pierce must put the case on hold.

Narrated by renowned stage and screen actors Anthony Heald and Keith David, this suspenseful novel will leave the listener wondering who's the cat...and who's the mouse.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I love this series but this one has been my least favorite. Enjoyable but not like the others. It did not need the explicit sex to make the story. I did not care for the reader who played Alex Cross. Sounded more Barry White ish. don't know if it was his voice or the way he portrayed Alex. Story was just ok.

not my favorite by a long shot

Almost didn't purchase this book because all the previous reviews talked about the bad audio quality of the book, and how hard it was to hear it. I like to read series in order so I purchased Cat and Mouse anyway. I am glad I did...

Either this is a new issue or they have resolved the audio issues, because I had no trouble hearing the book. And I want to note that I have hearing issues that can make it difficult to understand some things depending on the circumstances. I would recommend this book. By the way, I downloaded format 4.

The story kept me interested, even though I'm not a fan of abridged versions. Reading the series in order was important to me and I'm happy I went ahead and bought the book.

Glad I did...

To be frank, this book is why I kind of lapsed on James Patterson novels. It's not a bad story and, as one of his earlier Alex Cross books, it's much better than I remember some of the later ones being. But, if not trying to hit my Goodreads reading challenge target for 2021 and this one being really short, I probably would not have read it. I would not have missed out on anything more than an average book that felt like two disconnected short stories awkwardly jammed together.

The performance was a bit over the top. Too produced with the background, echoy names and sound effects. The narration by Keith David was first rate, but the narrator for the "bad guys" was very average if that. It was if he tries to hard to make the characters sound sinister.

Felt like two stores awkwardly jammed together

Wish that the full version was available in the U.S. Only got to listen to the abridged version.

the story was great and very exciting at the end, but it was hard to listen to because it had poor sound quality. when the music kicked in it sounded horrible and was hard to hear the reader. good listen, just not a good listen for maybe a first time listener.

hard to listen to

This is another great Alex Cross story. In Cat and Mouse you get two separate killers, so just when you think the story is over, it has really just begun. In Cat and Mouse Gary Soneegee is back to exact revenge against Alex and his family. While Soneegee has his story line, there is also a new killer who has the FBI and Alex Cross traveling all over the world to figure out his next move.

Get ready for a wild ride, this is a story that just keeps moving.

One wild ride!
