About this listen

Ursula K. Le Guin wrote this highly acclaimed novel about a very special litter of kittens. Mrs. Jane Tabby has always longed toget away from the cramped alleys of the city. She knows it is too late for her, but she thinks her longing may be the reason her litter of kittens was born with wings. When they are old enough to fly, she sends the four kittens, who become known as catwings, out into the world to find their home. But they find that danger does not lurk only in city alleyways.

A children's book by one of SciFi's leading lights

Ursula K. Le Guin's stuff is usually pretty hard to read. But that's her adult stuff. This is a cute little story about cats with wings. I have a feeling that the entire series is actually one book which she broke in the child size servings. So the ending feels a little unsatisfactory.

Great imagination in a child’s story

I loved the pictures than unfolded, teaching values without lecturing, and giving the reader to immerse in such lovely emotions and adventure.

Childhood Classic

I remember this story being read to me by my librarian when I was a little girl! It was a real treat to listen to it again - and by the actual author this time! I wish the story was longer but I’m looking forward to getting the next one.

This would be a great story to get for your little one to listen to. The teacher in me wants to advise that it would also be great as they follow along in a copy of the book which I’m sure you could get from your local library!

Review of cat wings

It was too short. I was very surprised at how short it was. I thought she had enough material to have gone on longer. I felt cheated. But that's because I love her stuff, I guess.

Le Guin’s understanding of animals and humans

See above. Her voice is good too, perfect for children’s attention span. She is a favorite of mine

A Childhood Favorite

I absolutely adored these books when I was little! I think they were the first chapter books that I ever read. I was excited when I found these on Audible because not only did I was to revisit them, but I am always looking for books that my 4-year-old daughter will be interested in. I read to her every night, but there are nights that I am either too tired to read much or she doesn't fall asleep after two books. When this happens, I need a book that she likes but isn't so intense that it will keep her awake, and this book fits the bill perfectly. My only complaint is the performance. Ursula K. Le Guin is a great author, but not such an excellent narrator. Her voice is rather flat, and she just isn't the ideal narrator for these books. I have the physical copy of these books and my daughter prefers it when I read them, but she will listen to these when she knows that I'm not up to reading them. I would still recommend the book because the story is lovely, I only wish that they would release a version that has a better narrator. I would recommend this book and the others in the series for children ages 4 - 12.
