About this listen

The sixth audiobook in the New York Times best-selling Ghost-in-Law series. Jadyn St. James hopes that the two-week quiet period in Mudbug means things in the small bayou town are back to normal - whatever that is. But when a fisherman finds a sunken shrimp boat, and the boat captain is missing, Jadyn wonders if the damage to the boat was caused by a storm, or if something far more nefarious happened. Colt Bertrand has been fighting his attraction to the sexy game warden since he first laid eyes on her. Once more, their jobs have forced them together, but when a stalker sets his sights on Jadyn, Colt’s emotions launch into overdrive. Can he protect the bayou beauty and also protect his heart?

Chaos with a resolution

Probably the best Mudbug tale yet! With her characters fully developed in this story, Ms DeLeon brings all the charm of a Deep South community to fruition. The right amount of exciting encounters has you cheering for the good guys and frowning at the villain , as any good tale with moral standards should! Quite pleasant Easy Read/Listening, it’s a good relaxation tale!

My New Addiction

This is a great cozy mystery/contempo romance. I made the mistake of thinking I could jump into the series with this book. I feel like I have missed a lot. This is definitely not a stand alone or series you should start midway. I definitely need to go back to the beginning and catch up.

The narrative is mixed and moved from the lead characters, supporting characters and the bad guy. This is generally smooth, but there are times it feels jumpy. So many voices giving the POV helps the reader stay on top of things. It cuts down a bit on the mystery, but it does make for a fuller read.

There is a romance here, but it seems to have been building for a bit, again the feeling of missing something arises. I expect I will understand the dynamic when I have read the whole series. It is a fairly clean read, but far from steam free.

I love the supporting cast and expect their stories are in the earlier books. Helena the ghost is a trip!! I love her sass and snarky attitude. She is definitely trouble, but oh so fun at the same time.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Johanna Parker, who has a wonderful read. She keeps the southern accents light, for the most part. I love the swift pace to her read and the energy she brings to the words. All the voices have been distinct and were consistent throughout the book. I hope she is on the whole series, because she has been delightful!

Now I have another series to be addicted to and now I need to go spend all my remaining Audible credits! I don't mind though because they are sure to be just as delightful as this one.

Disclosure - I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts opinions and ratings are my own.

Chaos that's not Helena

Enjoyed the storyline, Helena is hoot. I don't know if Helena would stay, but Mudbug needs her. Excellent narration. I reccomend this book.

Johanna Parker delivers as narrator!

This was my favorite book in the series (so far). Less explicit sex and more relationship development - for all the characters. Helene is obnoxiously funnier than ever. Love it.

#feelgood

You must start with the first book in the series in order to follow all the characters. The narrator is amazing in bringing the characters to life. This series is funny, romantic, and has a lot of mystery. Read the series and you won’t be sorry. #Tagsgiving#Sweepstakes

Fun

What did you love best about Chaos in Mudbug?

These are some fun stories - I like how the author pulls in all the people and keeps true to their personalities.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the introduction of a new person - Taylor.

Did Johanna Parker do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes - She has a nice voice --- but she needs to stop reading everything that is a "cliff hanger" sentence like a "radio announcer". It's predictable and frankly tiring. It turns a fun book into a satire - you could almost here the cliche music chords behind her : da da daaaa..it distracts from the story and if you listen to all the books in a row it's overwhelming. Glad I"m "caught up" - 'cause the "announcer" voice and "dire-ness" has now hit a peak. She's talented ---and if she could stop that piece -she would be great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no - see above.

Any additional comments?

The stories are fun - it gets a little irritating that all the women are 'stunning' and all the men are 'studly and perfect' --- maybe lighten up a bit on those pieces and some of this would simply be better.
