Publisher's summary

Trouble always comes to those who court it. Rose Gardner's ability to see glimpses of the future has gotten her into hot water time and again, but so have her curiosity and her sense of daring. Those very qualities helped her defeat the most powerful man in Arkansas - a man so adept at hiding his crimes there was no way to defeat him inside of the law - but her success came at a steep personal price. Now she's throwing herself into her landscaping business, trying to live a life that's as orderly as one of her gardens.

Rose's best friend, Neely Kate, is struggling with her own losses, so when she suggests they help a local man find a missing necklace, Rose agrees. It'll give both of them a welcome distraction, and besides, it's a simple investigation. What harm could befall them? But things that should be simple rarely are. In seeking out the necklace, Rose and Neely Kate find themselves in the thick of a power struggle in the Fenton County underworld, one that could dethrone Rose's friend James Malcolm, the surprisingly moral king.

The last thing Rose should do is court more trouble, but she's not the type to step away from a friend in need - and she's also not so sure she wants an orderly life.

Don't read if you must know back stories

It's book 1 in the series, but apparently these characters have been in her earlier books. The story was good and entertaining, but I felt there were lots of holes because we'd be given a tidbit of a story about the past but never the whole thing. It was a little frustrating to me. Other people may not have this issue. Plus the story continues in the next book. I can't decide if I will read the next one, search for the old ones or just drop it.

Family Jewels

Rose and Neely Kate take on a whole new adventure in this book that will have you truly wondering.. who took the necklace and why is it so important? Twists and turns, utter betrayals, and an intensified plot make this a book so good (and I mean sooo good), you won’t be able to put down. Family jewels take on multiple meanings in this new Rose Gardner book and it’s not all just sparkle and shine. Never a dull moment with Denise Grover Swank!

okay----BUT!

I really wanted to like this book---BUT, very predictable, and too much wasted time going back and forth & back and forth. It is a run around novel---it keeps you busy going nowhere. I told myself it would get better--But this is going all over.

Lead characters seem good and the premise of the story is good. For me it's just too much to keep listening to.

Shannon McManus is a good narrator.

Great book!

this book was really good! had me laughing the first 5 minutes and I was in love. but while I listned i often wondered what happened in previous books... its not necessary to listen to this book but sometimes things were mentioned like the lady in black... I wondered how did she happen... so now I want to go back and read the previous books but it will have to wait since I am a skip ahead kind of gal. Excited to listen to the series :)

Best. Series. Ever

My only mistake was listening to all of the books in under two months. Now I’m done and I’m going into Rose withdrawal! This series made me laugh and cry! I just loved the character development and the story line. I feel like out of all the book series I’ve ever read, this character grew the most! She keeps getting better and better. I’m so sick of the series with weak women that never learn, Rose is anything but weak! Love it! It will be the first series in my life that I actual go back and read again.

Family Jewels is a gem

I loved the story and the narrator. DGS has become my favorite in just a few weeks. I have not found a book I did not like. The story was believable and exciting did not want to put it down

Love this new series!

I was so happy all the main characters from Rose Gardner mysteries are included in the new series. I really hope Rose and James continue to get closer. I am also happy for Jed and NK. I have read all the books on kindle but enjoy listening while in the car

Good Start to New Arc

Now that Simmons story arc was completed in the the original Rose Gardner series, this offshoot series continues her adventures into solving mysteries. The story is compelling and has some interesting twists.

The narration is excellent as usual.
