About this listen

In 1994, retired CBS correspondent Charles Kuralt set out to spend a perfect year in America - traveling to his 12 favorite American places, in just the right month for a visit to each. With his well-known warmth, humor, and insight, he shows them to us now in Charles Kuralt's America. From Montana in September and Alaska in June to winter in Cajun country and spring in the North Carolina mountains, Kuralt's accounts are filled with unique people, stories, and experiences. America is suffused by a poet's love of language and is rich in the spirit and flavor of this infinite and varied land.©1995 Charles Kuralt, All Rights Reserved (P)1995 Simon & Schuster Inc., All Rights Reserved Art & Literature Journalists, Editors & Publishers North America Travel Writing & Commentary United States Witty

I had heard this book prior to downloading it from this site, so I knew what to expect. Still, I could not help being wowed all over again. It is the perfect tale of one man's favorite American locations at their perfect time of year. The wide range of personalties that he encounters in many places, that I have never been, inspire me to travel there in the hopes that my experiences would be a fraction of how interesting Kuralt's are. The icing on the cake is Kuralt's narration. His timeless voice paints a vivid picture of America through his eyes.

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. My favorite chapters are Charleston, SC and Key West.

Listening to Charles is like traveling back in time. You get the same feeling as when you look at a Norman Rockwell painting. We were lucky to have had him. He showed us the good in people.

I was really thrilled by this title. Charles takes you on a tour of America and you can only enjoy the ride. This was the most involving book on tape that I have ever listened to. I have passed it on to friends and family and they loved it. Too bad Charles had to have a mistress in Montana, that was the only bad this he ever did and my wife and I laugh about the part of the book where he goes to Montana thinking he really is just shacking up with his girlfriend.

Charles has the hope of America

Well written, I love that Mr. Kuralt read his books himself. I miss his presence but I don’t have to miss him speaking to me.

He was a real American.

Reading it for the 3rd time since it was published and took notes to make my own Road Trip game plan. Maybe there's some of this Magic still left in America. Thanks, Mr. Kuralt. SO love your work.

Oh, YES. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

From the moment we started out in 'Orleans' and everywhere Charles went, he took me right along. My only regret is the trip passed way too fast. Actually had more fun then a few trips I've experienced first hand.

You can not go wrong with this one

Would you consider the audio edition of Charles Kuralt's America to be better than the print version?

My all time favorite audiobook. It stays on my player full time. To hear his rich voice deliver what he wrote is a masterpiece.

My family and I played this book as we crossed the country in our minivan and it made a wonderful companion. We thoroughly enjoyed Kuralt's vivid descriptions of places and poignant observations of people. We've listened to segments again and they are still wonderful and witty multiple times over.

Wonderful Cultural Travelogue
