About this listen

In 1973, a gunman fired five shots into Colonel Joe Alon, a kind, unassuming Israeli Air Force pilot. As it turned out, Alon wasn't just a pilot and family man - he was a high-ranking Israeli military official and hero of the Israeli Air Force. The assassin was never found, and the case was closed. As a counterterrorism special agent, Fred Burton reopened the case and pursued the killer.

From swirling dogfights over Egypt and Hanoi to gun battles on the streets of Beirut, this action-packed history spans the globe and several fraught decades in our history. Chasing Shadows spins a gripping tale of agents, double agents, terrorists, and heroes as Burton chases leads around the globe in an effort to solve this decades-old murder.

This is the almost 40 year story of an obsession for justice. One who spent a career standing between us and international evil tells a true story about chasing down a shadowy assassin. My interest was held at the highest level throughout this wonderfully written and narrated book. I heartily recommend it.

Great research and well told story. Very interesting history in the background of the story of the death of Alon and I’m sure, much satisfaction for the family.

Well done

As the murder the book is based on happened just miles from my childhood home, as it did the author. I too was very much affected by the crime and remember it well. We also were regular customers at his fathers gas station/garage and the many other businesses on that corner and beyond. The affect something like that has on a teenager from a very safe and happy small town is immeasurable. I was totally enthralled with the book, the time spent working the crime and searching for answers is very commendable. I believe everyone, no matter where you grew up or when, will appreciate and enjoy the research and answers provided. Unfortunately, times have changed and often not for the best, although growing up in Bethesda was a whole different world, and I must thank the author for bringing me back, if only for a glimpse down memory lane. Very well written, gripping and lots of twists and turns.

Well written and researched, a pleasure to listen or read

This book really shows how blind we have been to the terrorism threat throughout the world for the last 30+ years. Well worth the listen!

Overall very good. Performance has odd musical interludes for no apparent reason. Other than that, it is worthwhile.
