Publisher's summary

Five years after working triage during America's terrible Day of Destruction, Dr. Ethan King wants nothing more for himself and his wife than a normal life. In the aftermath, however, life is anything but normal. The mysterious nerve gas unleashed during the nationwide terrorist attack has left its disturbing mark among the millions of victims, namely brain abnormalities in unborn children.

These children, dubbed "Inexorables," live up to their name: They are ruthlessly violent, irrepressibly psychopathic, and incurable. They kill without thought or remorse, and inflict torment on their victims with childish glee.

In his pursuit of a normal, peaceful life, Ethan tries as best he can to put these grim realities to the back of his mind. But one cold night, when he comes face to face with an abandoned Inexorable freezing to death in the snow, he must make a choice that could cost him everything and unravel a thread of dark woven secrets. As he races to find a cure for whatever is creating a generation of doomed children, Ethan discovers that doing the right thing in an evil world is never as clear and easy as it seems.

great start to this series

I enjoyed listening to this story. I have not read this author before but I like the writing. It didn't take long for me to be invested n the story and the lives of the characters. I can't wait to read the next book. I enjoyed listening to the narrator too. I thought he did a good job. I would recommend this book to others.

I just couldn't stop listening.

Firstly I want to state that choosing Tom Askin for the narrator of this book was brilliant. His voice (which voice can be make or break it for me when it comes to audiobooks) is perfect and exactly how I would imagine Dr. King's voice to sound.

Next to the story....T.A Ward does an amazing job of writing in such a way that you just can not stop listening. It's not that there is some crazy cliff hanger at the end of ever chapter that makes you not want to stop but it's rather like a puzzle that you just can't seem to leave alone till its finished. You feel the need to add just a few more pieces until all the sudden it's so close to the end you can't stop till you can see the full picture. I usually consume audio books at a rate of about one a week but finished Children of Wrath in just over 24 hours. Staying up late 2 nights in a row because I just couldn't bring myself to turn it off. I cannot put my finger on what exactly makes this book so intriguing but it's like listening to a speaker that has such an interesting life story of an ordinary life turned extraordinary that you don't even realize you've become so caught up in their story that your leaning forward in your chair until it over. If anything in the Publisher's Summary caught your eye and your debating if this book is worth your credit, it is! I was provided a free copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review and please be assured that this review is my honest opinion.

Very good

This book was very good. I wouldn't say great because of the ending. A bit disappointing, but other than that it was good. Readers voice was nice and editing was great!! No mishaps. Can't wait for the second one.

Enjoyed the storyline!

It took me a little while to get into the story, but once I did, I found the plot very interesting and could hardly wait to see how it would play out. There are some interesting moral dilemmas, too, that I wanted to see how the characters would handle. The style of writing and point of view it's written from isn't quite what I prefer - there's a lot of descriptive language, at times almost a bit too much. Overall, though, I enjoyed it!

Wow!

Children of Wraith is a story of one man and his wife who have taken in a brain damaged child. There is so much within this story that hurt my feelings...the government did it, but why? Then then hid it, but why? Refused to allow a cure to be developed, but why? There is so much conspiracy and intrigue that is like a never ending roller coaster of emotions. I enjoyed this book very much. I listened to the audiobook version of this book and the narrator does a fantastic job of emitting the thoughts, emotions and his characters are real enough to be believed.
I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to book 2.

I really loved the mix of elements in this story

I really loved the mix of elements in this story, the medical and science side with a thriller, that and a great engaging story. It sucked you in from the very first page, you want to know more about this world built by the Author. You want to see what happens to this family the Author has sucked you into liking.

It would have been very easy for the Author to get stuck on the terrorist element, but I am thankful that she didn’t. Looking forward to the second. Can easily be read as a standalone. The second follows a different MC.

Emotionally powerfull, gripping story

This audiobook grabs you from the very start and keeps a hold of you till the absolute end. It is anxiety inducing, heart wrenching, suspenseful and yet also full of love. From the nuclear and chemical attacks at the start, to brain damage, soul-destroying decisions, intrigue, secrets and unconditional love, this story is intensely gripping. The narrator truly does an excellent job of drawing you into the story, making you care about the characters and actually feel the powerful emotions. Your heart breaks for the Inexorables, for Ethan, Liz and their children, for what everyone unknowingly endures, and for the callousness that power and money can cause. At times this story was so intense I had to pause listening for a minute because it was so anxiety inducing. It is a very well written, compelling story that feels real from the start, makes you think and leaves you shell shocked at the end. I can’t wait to hear to the next installment of this story.

Children of Wrath

Wow, I could not put this book down! T. A. Ward has written a riveting thriller that deals with a nationwide terror attack and the fallout from it.

Dr. Ethan King, an infectious disease doctor, is caught up in discovering the truths about the attacks that impacted the nation, but is the cost worth it?

Tom Askin is absolutely the perfect narrator for this story. I can’t imagine anyone else voicing Dr. King.

Twist ending.

I loved and hated children of Wrath. It was such a well written book, with such an excellent narrative you felt like you were really right there, seeing and feeling everything as the characters did. The story was engaging from the beginning and did not let up, with unexpected twist and turns it kept you engaged until the very end. It presented incredibly hard ethical questions, and you really struggled with the characters as they tried to find the "right" path. The characters struggle with their own ethics when forced to play them out until the end, and the consequences of sticking with your convictions no matter what. I hate that I have to wait for the 3rd and final instalment of this series, as I'm not a patient person and do not like cliff hangers. I will have to try and drag the 2nd book out as long as possible to ease the waiting period. Overall I loved this book, and would definitely recommend it to a friend. I can't wait to read the next one!

The Children are our Future

Written by T. A. Ward and narrated by Tom Askin. This is a book that is mostly about a doctor named Ethan King and his life as a doctor in the United States after it suffers a horrific nuclear and chemical weapon attack. Dr. King was working the day of the attack; the chemical weapons caused horrific effects to women who become pregnant. The chemical causes the brains of unborn children to lose all control of their impulses. The children become extremely violent.

Chemical released on the day of wrath is called Obcases. And basically, the United States has become a country that can't really have kids anymore. The birthrate had dropped to only 1 in 10 kids is born to a normal life the rest are Inexorable. The children with the brain damage are called Inexorable. They're relentless and unstoppable because these kids are just little horrific killing machines if the parents have one they are told the risks they face if they take the child home to raise or they can turn it over to the state and have it put down.

The book breaks into two parts the first part is Dr. King working on the day of the attack. He is running a decontamination tent. Then horror of that day and all he bears witness to on the Day of Wrath. The second part jumps to 5 years later when he finds one of these inexorable children and brings the child home and tries to cure him. This is the story of a man's unconditional love for his son that he wants to save and the unintended consequences of his action for his family.

This is a different moving post-apocalyptic story. I really enjoyed it and I highly recommend it for people who like a post-apocalyptic type story with a little bit of conspiracy thrown. The narration is top notch. This is the first time I've ever heard Tom Askin as a narrator and he does excellent job he hits all the right notes and gets you really emotionally invested in the story and the characters. He gets you to really feel for these characters, especially the weight in the gravitas of everything this doctor feels and goes through to save people during these events. This is the first time I've ever listened to anything from the author and I really like the way he wrote this. I plan to follow more of his work.
