Publisher's summary

Christian essentials made plain and simple.

God doesn’t call every Christian to go off to seminary, but there are certain matters of doctrine - that is, the church’s teaching - that every Christian simply must know.

Theology is important because what we believe affects how we live. If you’re a relatively new believer in Jesus, or if you’re a more mature Christian looking for a quick brush-up on basics of the faith, Christian Beliefs is for you.

This guide to 20 basic Christian beliefs is a condensation of Wayne Grudem’s award-winning book on systematic theology, prized by pastors and teachers everywhere. He and his son, Elliot, have boiled down the essentials of Christian theology for the average layperson and made them both clear and applicable to life.

You will learn about the Bible, the characteristics of God, what it means that we are created in the image of God, what God has done for us in Christ, the purpose of the church, and much more. Each chapter includes questions for personal review or group discussion. These truly are 20 basic beliefs that every Christian should know.

Wayne Grudem is a master teacher with the ability to explain profound truths in simple language. He is a man of deep conviction and theological passion - and those who listen to this audiobook will be both educated and encouraged in the faith.

Concise & Packed with References

This is a thorough overview of the fundamentals of the Christian faith. However, this book is not only for new Christians. It is a fantastic library and reference resource. Each major doctrine as replete with Scriptural references and cross-references. This work considers the canonical view of Holy Scripture and synthesizes the storyline of the Bible to its subject matter. It works in nature similar to The New Treasury of Scripture Knowlege, however, it is focused on systematic theology. It really is a small theological reference library. Users will refer to this source many times over many years for Bible studies, sermon prep, lesson plans, and more.

terrible quality

This is a robotic voice. It sounds like very poor quality. I do not appreciate books being offered with this kind of poor quality.

This book is life-changing

Before reading this book I primarily relied upon the Bible and prayer as ways to get to know God. If there was ever a way for man to be able to truly wrap their heads around how infinite, how great, how awesome, God truly is, This book probably comes closest to summing it all up. I am completely in awe and completely inspired and completely in love with the God I serve in a way that I haven’t been before. Wow!

Excellent!

The content deserves 10 stars and makes up for the monotonous and robotic monotone reading.

Oversimplified. Lacks nuance.

I know the point of the book is to shorten and simplify, but this is way too far. It lacks nuance or respect for the complexity of each belief. He states as fact things that he doesn't explain why they are true. If I was struggling with my faith and read this, I believe this would make it HARDER, not easier, to believe. I don't like disparaging anyone's hard work but also do not want people to end up reading this thinking it will help clarify things when in fact it just makes them worse.

Not a good format for such a good book

May be this is just me, as English is not my first language, I found it very distracting to listen to the content with a bible reference quoted after a few words every time.
I understand that the reference is to ensure the contents are backed up with appropriate bible reference, however as an audible book, I found it very difficult to follow the whole sentence

items in the book not biblical

book says Jesus died for some. I would refer the author to 1 John 2:2 (esv) "He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world." I respect Grudem for the great theologian that he is but sad that I need to check and verify what he says.. realizing his calvinist beliefs does not give excuse to misrepresent the bible.
