About this listen

Dwarves and mutants.

Orcs and demonesses.

Tea trolls and tigers.

Bone-bound ghosts and lightning wolves.

Dip your toes into the exotic waters of Maradoum, exploring the realm through 11 stand-alone short stories set in the same world as the Convent Series, beginning with A Dead Wizard’s Dream.

From the brutality of dust-blown Ogbun Nagali and the barbarism of high society in Zamphia to the rotten heart of civilized Justiqua and the treacheries secreted beneath the soothing tropics of Ishambria, this high fantasy anthology is stuffed to the gills with witches and wizards, gods and monsters, tales of love beyond death and familial vengeance, coming of age and reunification, and questing warriors and even noble foes.

A Collection of Brooding Takes

The book is a group of rather intense and a bit on the darker side, short stories. Ordinarily not quite my “cup of tea.” But I did and do enjoy fantasies no matter where they’re located. Even when the stories range from Central India to Central China as these stories seemed to.

.

A nice piece of work, and my kudos to the author.

Great addition to the Mardoum series.

This sixth volume in Ross Hughes Chronicles of Maradoum stories once again transported this reader to a place filled with wonder, fascinating characters, and plenty of action to make each story memorable. There are 11 separate short stories in Volume 6, admittedly a few less that in previous volumes, but these 11 stories were so well written and so rich in details that when I was done my fantasy addiction was quelled for the time being. From the first story to the last I was fully engaged in each story and taken by the scenes that Ross painted with his words. I sure hope Ross keeps chronicling the stories of Maradoum for years to come. While I had previously read this Volume, Matt Weisgerber’s narration made the stories fresh and very entertaining. I received a review copy of the audiobook through StoryOrigin and chose to provide this review.

Another well-written story from a very good author

Chronicles of Maradoum Volume 6 (Chronicles of Maradoum, #6), my thirteenth read from author Ross C. Hughes that I originally read back in November of last year. Another entertaining collection of fantasy short reads. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Narrator Matt Weisgerber's talented voice made the re-read even better than the original. I'll definitely be reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018.

Fabulous

I loved this so much. Every single story was amazing. The characters were stunningly depicted, the environments set for each tale beautifully. The narrator did a fantastic job, I loved how he did the women voices as well.

Another Analogy of Short Unrelated Stories

We get another 11 stories from various times and locations in Maradoum. Once again they are interesting but not related to each other.
Narrator does a good job with the characters voices and the Various Storylines.

Baskerville Book Reviews

I was somewhat pleasantly surprised by this collection. The first few stories out of the gate were pretty interesting, unlike volumes 4 and 5. I went into this, dreading it, after my experience with the last 2.

It does suffer from the same forgettability of the first 2, however. I was about to DNF it after listening to it over a couple of days and hardly remembering anything about it. I decided to finish it, when I noticed I only had 10 minutes left (at 2.55x speed).

Aside from the first 2 – 3 stories, the most noteworthy thing about this collection is how rapid-fire they feel. They start quickly, get interesting, and then end abruptly. It was a bit disappointing when I’d be invested in a story and then it ended and moved on as if it never happened. The only ending I found satisfactory was that of the first story.

The narration has also improved since the last 2 books, to a degree. The character voices could use some work but were passable, and the ever-present background hissing was incredibly distracting and annoying. Other than those issues, I’d say it’s better than most audiobook narrations.

NOTE: This copy was provided to me free of charge as a digital review copy. The opinions stated in this review are mine and mine alone, I was not paid or requested to give this book a certain rating, suggestion, or approval.

Awesome Anthology

Immersive, addictive and thought provoking. This sixth collection of tales from Maradoum is as intriguing as ever. I love the way the stories span the world of Maradoum and we learn more of the different peoples and cultures. I have read all the early short story collections (and the six books of the Convent Series) and highly recommend this most recent collection. If you are a fantasy fan you will love this savage world and the chronicles.

As ever, the narration adds that extra dimension. I'm not sure what is the reason that the narrator has changed for each collection of the Chronicles, but Matt did an excellent job, thank you.

Volume 6 in the Chronicles of Maradoum!

Ross Hughes continues the Chronicles of Maradoum with Volume 6. Fantastic action continues in the series, the characters are well thought out in each short story, and I look forward to what Ross has for us next! Audio Version: Another new narrator, Matt Weisgerber, but he does a great job with these characters and the narration.
