Publisher's summary

To protect his cover, he must claim her as his captive. To save her own life, she must claim his heart....

A gruesome siege destroys Kirk MacLeod’s faith in the Scottish fight for independence. Robert the Bruce promises to release Kirk from his service if he completes one final assignment: infiltrate the deadly bounty hunter league that has thwarted the Scots’ cause for years. Kirk plays the part of a cold-blooded mercenary almost too well. But when the league orders him to kidnap a beautiful Englishwoman, he must choose between following his mission, and following his heart.

Lillian Fitzhugh’s late husband leaves her with a powerful secret - one that has men willing to capture and kill for it. When she’s taken by Kirk, a ruthless Highland bounty hunter set to deliver her to the men who murdered her husband, she fears all is lost. But she senses that beneath her captor’s hardened exterior lies the heart of an honorable man. To gain her freedom, she must unravel the truth of Kirk’s identity. In doing so, she ensnares them both in a dangerous web of desire and secrets that may cost them both their lives.

This full-length Scottish historical romance is part of the Highland Bodyguards Series, but also can be enjoyed as a standalone novel. Pick up your copy today!

Oh, the angst, the drama!!!

This book deserves all the stars in the world. Yes, it is THAT brilliant.❤ The plot is excellent, the pace great, the love story intense. Nothing about this book, the surprises it holds in the plot, is obvious. It's like a game of chess indeed!!! 😉 I LOVE how Lillian is described as highly intelligent, observant, intuitive. Kirk is SUCH A COMPLEX character. Impossible not to love him and empathise with his search for true freedom. And if I though that Emma Prince put her characters in Heart's Thief in some difficult situations then...I was wrong. 😂 THIS book truly pushes the characters' to their extremes in the most delicious ways and then slowly gets them out of trouble and into the arms of love and happy everafter. 🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤

Unique and Suspenseful

This book was a little bit different from the typical highland romance novel… more of a suspenseful plot. I really didn’t know how the main character was going to get out of his predicament. A breath of fresh air in this genre.

EXCELLENT

Another winner! I liked this story very much. Great main characters. Loved Lillian! Kirk was such a tragic man my heart broke for his struggle. Colin was a bit of a poop, but I look forward to Logan Mackenzie's story.

Insurmountable Odds at Every Turn

Best of all the Highland romance novels I've read so far. It seems there is no way out for the hero. He's torn between freedom, duty, and love and it doesn't look like he will have any of them. But, beyond all odds, by being willing to put his own life on the line he gets them all and finds himself again.

Very Good

Kirk plays his role a little too well and almost looses himself. His faith in the Scottish cause is just about lost and the reason is understandable. The action in the beginning makes you wonder about the outcome.

Great Read

Another great book in the series. This is about a warrior’s internal battle versus the external battle going on around him at the same time falling in love. Great story and just the right amount of romance. And Tim Campbell is an amazing narrator!!

eh!

I had a very difficult time getting through the first chapters, let alone the book! Emma Prince is a first. I like lengthy books if they have reason to be so. Three quarters of this was "Kirk" trying to figure out whether he was worthy to himself and his King. Blah! Blah! Blah! Finally towards the end things get better, yea!
The only reason I finished this audiobook , I kept thinking it would get better. And I bought it. The narrator' Tim Campbell does an amazing job. 😐
