About this listen

The Douglas sisters, beauties all, are valuable pawns in their family's bitter struggle to control the Scottish Crown. But when powerful enemies threaten, each Douglas lass will find she must face them alone. Captured by a Laird Haunted by his father's violent death, David Hume, the new laird of Wedderburn, sets out to make his name so feared that no one will dare harm his family again. The treacherous ally who played on his father's weakness is dead and beyond David's vengeance, but his castle and young widow are ripe for the taking. The moment David lays eyes on the dark-haired beauty defending her wee daughters, however, he knows this frail-looking lass is the one person who could bring him to his knees. Wed at thirteen to a man who tried daily to break her spirit, Lady Alison Douglas is looking forward to a long widowhood. But when the fearsome warrior known as the Beast of Wedderburn storms her gates, she finds herself, once again, forced to wed a stranger. Alison is only a pawn to serve his vengeance, so why does this dark warrior arouse such fiery passion and an unwelcome longing in her heart? With death and danger looming, these two wounded souls must learn to trust each other; for only love can save them.©2014 Margaret Mallory (P)2014 Margaret Mallory Fiction Historical Historical Fiction Romance Heartfelt Scottish Romance

Loved it.

Margaret and the narrator brought the Highlands to life.....the passion, violence, pride of country and honor of an honorable Laird. She created a wonderful ardent love story in the rugged country of the Scottish Highlands. It brought out every emotion with this great story.

Couldn't Stop Listening!!

Taking the castle, lands, and even the widow of his dead adversary was part of David Hume's plan to avenge the deaths of his father and uncle. After ten miserable years of marriage to a hateful tyrant that she abhorred, a forced marriage to the stranger who stole her daughters' legacy was the last thing Alison expected to happen. Sparks flew between David and Alison from the very beginning, each assuming things about the other and creating a seemingly impossible start to their marriage. How would they ever come to understand each other, much less tolerate or even come to love each other?

'Captured By A Laird' was my first introduction to author Margaret Mallory, and I found the story very exciting. I kept wondering how the characters could ever find forgiveness and acceptance, much less love, and with each event caught myself thinking, "no, you're wrong, don't do it!" I liked how she developed her characters with the unfolding events, adding a bit of suspense until each situation was resolved. I will be watching for the next book in this series.

I really enjoyed Derek Perkins' narration of the book. His Scottish accent sounded so authentic, and the emotionality expressed in some of the scenes was a bit heart-wrenching. I couldn't stop listening!! When he choked out Alison's whispered "please!" I actually gasped! I look forward to hearing his narrations of other books.

Another whiny self-absorbed heroin – UGH

I almost stopped bothering with the book because Allison is such an annoying individual and totally unbelievable for a Scottish laird"s wife. Given her history provided within the story, her wimpiness regarding the violence in clan clashes is totally unbelievable.

What I also find frustrating is her stupidity in repeating the errors in judgment regarding her family over and over again. However, I do recognize that without such Bad judgment, there wouldn't be a whole lot of story.

I did read it all the way through and the story was sufficiently compelling as were the characters of David, his brothers and Alison's daughters were a will drawn fascinating and admirable in their way. It was only Alison that I really wanted to slap around the block! :-)

My favorite part of the book, to be truthful, what's the historical note at the end. The history is fascinating!

Captured by a laird

The book was very good nicely written. Gonna get the next one in the series. Kept me on the edge made me laugh and get teary eyed. The only reason I didn't give it a 5* was the voice. The way the male voice tried to be a girl and a child it didnt do it for me.

Read several of this writer's works-enjoyed all!

I like several aspects of this author's writings. Her stories have enough history while blending some fabrication to make the tale engrossing and interesting. Furthermore, there is enough steam and romance to make the book compelling to a romance reader. I look forward to eventually reading all her publications!

What a Man!

David and Alison -
I loved both of these characters. This was such a wonderful ending for Alison, especially after her horrible 1st marriage and I simply cringe at the age these women had to marry and these sorry pieces of work that brutalize them.
David Hume is a wonderful man and protector and love how he came in and immediately cared for the girls and Alison. What a man!!! What a man!!!!
I love some of the historical truths and the fictions around these people in history.
