About this listen

The Kelso-McIvey rehabilitation center is a place of hope and healing for both its patients and dedicated staff. And for its directors, it's a lifelong dream that's about to be destroyed, if David McIvey has his way. A brilliant surgeon but a man whose ego rivals his skill with a scalpel, David McIvey now plans to close the clinic and replace it with a massive new surgery center, with himself at the helm.

Because he is poised to desecrate the dreams of so many, it's no surprise that somebody dares to stop him in cold blood. When David McIvey is murdered outside the clinic's doors, lawyer Barbara Holloway must use her razor-sharp instincts and take-no-prisoners attitude to create a defense for the two members of the clinic accused of his murder.

Good Story!

Just as with book #7... I enjoyed this book very much. The story & characters were all interesting and the narrator, Anna Fields, did a great job. I look forward to listening to more books in this series.

Great read!

I enjoy this series and love the confidence and intelligence of the main character. Her relationship with her father is endearing. She’s a good sleuth. The narrator does an excellent job as well.

Please stop the character voices!!!

It took a LONG time to get into this story, holy moly. This will be my last Kate Wilhelm / Anna Fields book I read. M. Gavin who narrated a couple of Wilhelm's other books is vastly superior. I was very disappointed she did not narrate more. Anna Fields does a good job with the normal narration but she absolutely butchers the character voices. Ms. Fields, your voice is lovely but you are not a character actor. I cringed every time she tried to do character voices, ESPECIALLY when she tries to do an old man voice. It sounds like a terrible attempt at a caricature of an old man. Don't even get me started on her voice for Bailey, he sounds like.. I won't even say. I ended up stopping halfway through and skipping to the end. I probably would have stuck it out if there weren't character voices. I felt like I was listening to a children's or teen book. I actually checked to see if it was geared towards young adults.

Anna Fields as Narrator is Incredible

Anna Fields is one of my favorite narrators out of the hundreds of books I’ve listened to on Audible!

A good short unabridged Kate Wilhelm Story

A good short unabridged Kate Wilhelm story. I have read 4 others & love her books. They are a good blend of legal problem solving, sleuthing, and enough action to keep the pace up. The more I read the books and became familiar with the charactors, the more I wanted. I recommend it.

MY second favorite I in this series.

At first I thought I had downloaded the wrong book. It didn't start out w Barbara Halloway or the usual gang. But she eventually entered the picture. I'm warming to the narrator. I never seem to guess the correct "bad guy" in her books. She truly has a gift of making twists & turns, esp at the endings.

Not what I expected, still worth listening

It took me a little longer to get interested in this Barbara Holloway story because she doesn't appear until chapter 9. The first 8 chapters gave the back story (so to speak) and then Barbara, Frank, Bailey and the crew get involved in solving a murder! This one doesn't see any court action and yet is still very well written and has a good story line.

I've read other reviews in regards to this specific narrator and have to say I disagree with many. I like Anna Fields Narration, I enjoy how she can bring out the characters personalities and emotions.

If you're a Barbara Hollow fan, don't skip this one.
