About this listen

The Kelso-McIvey rehabilitation center is a place of hope and healing for both its patients and dedicated staff. And for its directors, it's a lifelong dream that's about to be destroyed, if David McIvey has his way. A brilliant surgeon but a man whose ego rivals his skill with a scalpel, David McIvey now plans to close the clinic and replace it with a massive new surgery center, with himself at the helm.

Because he is poised to desecrate the dreams of so many, it's no surprise that somebody dares to stop him in cold blood. When David McIvey is murdered outside the clinic's doors, lawyer Barbara Holloway must use her razor-sharp instincts and take-no-prisoners attitude to create a defense for the two members of the clinic accused of his murder.

Good Story!

Just as with book #7... I enjoyed this book very much. The story & characters were all interesting and the narrator, Anna Fields, did a great job. I look forward to listening to more books in this series.

Great read!

I enjoy this series and love the confidence and intelligence of the main character. Her relationship with her father is endearing. She’s a good sleuth. The narrator does an excellent job as well.

Please stop the character voices!!!

It took a LONG time to get into this story, holy moly. This will be my last Kate Wilhelm / Anna Fields book I read. M. Gavin who narrated a couple of Wilhelm's other books is vastly superior. I was very disappointed she did not narrate more. Anna Fields does a good job with the normal narration but she absolutely butchers the character voices. Ms. Fields, your voice is lovely but you are not a character actor. I cringed every time she tried to do character voices, ESPECIALLY when she tries to do an old man voice. It sounds like a terrible attempt at a caricature of an old man. Don't even get me started on her voice for Bailey, he sounds like.. I won't even say. I ended up stopping halfway through and skipping to the end. I probably would have stuck it out if there weren't character voices. I felt like I was listening to a children's or teen book. I actually checked to see if it was geared towards young adults.

after listening to the first in this series I really had a hard time getting used to the narrator. the story wasn't quite as compelling, but it was decent

it's complicated

the story kept me guessing. characters were sometimes referred to by first name and sometimes by last name - a little confusing.

very good however preferred past narrator's voice

I like Marguerite Gavin's performance better than Anna Field's. I do like the story and the strong female lead. I will try the next book

Well Hawt Damn!

You know, just when I thought this series couldn't get any better, it DID! I skipped two books because of the Narrator, whose voice I couldn't wrap my head around being in a courtroom. I went into this one relieved it was (pseudo name) Anna Fields, because her voice does command attention. Although, she kind of sounds like Ellen DeGeneres, just not as annoyingly as Ellen. Ha-Ha.

I wasn't sure where this story was going to take me and almost had me completely fooled but ohhhh, how wonderfully swell everything tied together. I enjoy a good mystery and this is a solid one.

Great character development, great storylines, great narration, great everything. This one is a keeper to be read more than a of times.

Enjoy! =)
