About this listen

In New York Times bestselling author Anthony Horowitz’s ingenious fifth literary whodunnit in the Hawthorne and Horowitz series, Detective Hawthorne is once again called upon to solve an unsolvable case—a gruesome murder in an idyllic gated community in which suspects abound.

Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong, and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate.

It is the perfect idyll, until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, gaggle of shrieking children, and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and quickly offend every last one of the neighbors.

When Giles Kentworthy is found dead on his own doorstep, a crossbow bolt sticking out of his chest, Detective Hawthorne is the only investigator they can call to solve the case.

Because how do you solve a murder when everyone is a suspect?

I absolutely loved this book. The mystery itself is complicated enough to keep you guessing, yet easy to understand. The characters are richly developed and so very, very, interesting. I don't want to talk about the plot itself because I don't want to spoil any of the mystery but I can say I enjoyed every minute of it and had it finished in one day.
Must also say they the narrator is awesome, brings the whole thing to life.
Can't wait for the next book.

Wonderfully Satisfying

Very intriguing murder mystery with colorful characters as always. We also get more development to our duo and some interesting personal revelations for Hawthorne that leaves you excited for the next installment.

Series getting better and I’m sticking with it

Marcia Clarke - DA at the OJ trial. Tom Beresford - American actor. Raymond Shaw - role played by Lawrence Harvey in
"The Manchurian Candidate". And we all know Ian McKellen. All these names - coincidence??? Or is there another hidden meaning or message here? Whatever! Another great read from Anthony Horowitz!

I love Horowitz and Hawthorne...

I am a big Anthony Horowitz fan. His stories, molded around his enigmatic relationship with Hawthorne, are deep and sometimes confusing. The format he used in this book made the story interesting yet difficult to follow at times. Great ending though.

Excellent, and not the same formula
