About this listen

There are many things 12-year-old Clover Blue isn't sure of: his exact date of birth, his name before he was adopted into the Saffron Freedom Community, or who his first parents were. What he does know with certainty is that among this close-knit, nature-loving group, he is happy. Here, everyone is family, regardless of their disparate backgrounds - surfer, midwife, Grateful Dead groupie, Vietnam deserter. But despite his loyalty to the commune and its guru-like founder Goji, Blue grapples with invisible ties toward another family - the one he doesn't remember.

With the urging of his fearless and funny best friend, Harmony, Clover Blue begins to ask questions. For the first time, Goji's answers fail to satisfy. The passing months bring upheaval to their little clan and another member arrives, a beautiful runaway teen named Rain, sparking new tensions. As secrets slowly unfurl, Blue's beliefs - about Goji, the guidelines that govern their seemingly idyllic lives, and the nature of family itself - begin to shift. With each revelation about a heartbreaking past he never imagined, Blue faces a choice between those he's always trusted, and an uncertain future where he must risk everything in his quest for the truth.

beautifully written story

I am not sure how to express my love for this book and it's characters without giving too much of the story away.

Clover Blue is one of the members of a "commune" The Saffron Freedom Community. They have lived happily for many years some people have gone but there is a core group, a family of sister-mothers but Blue is not sure which one is his real mother or who of the men, if any, are his father. As Clover Blue starts to come of age his questions about who he is and where he comes from become very important to him, but will any of his "family" tell him the truth?

This book is full of interesting characters, coming of age, and what does family really mean?

Ramon De Ocampo's narration was so well done I really enjoyed all the different voices and accents, you always knew who was speaking. Well done!

This book has a southern fiction feel to it...I'm not sure how else to explain it other than that!

I highly recommend this book!

Peace,love and understanding?

That's the question, the answer is easy if you know Eldonna Edwards work ! What a delightful story about coming of age of many 'different ' ages of people in the 70''s and what does constitute a family. I also loved the audible work .

Amazing Tale

I almost stopped listening during the first two hours; I wasn't sure I wanted to revisit the old Hippy-Commune life style. So glad I stayed with it. A coming of age story that is heartbreaking at every turn. But redemptive as well.
Perfect narration.

Boy's view of life inside a California commune

Ready like a true story. Real characters, with flaws, honor, mistakes, regret, spirituality. There is real caring among the community members, but everyone has their secrets. Blue is a memorable characters, as a boy raised by this community who comes to question his life in ir as he comes to adulthood.

I did n o T like this book. Too negative a topic.

It may be real life, all I could see was children being taken advantage of in the name of imitation ‘love.’ Their leader sneaked and lied about his own life. I see this book as a waste of time and good brain space.

I liked the story line

could not tolerate the cursing and crudeness. books really need a rating system like movies.
