About this listen

A Southern story of friendship forged by books and bees, when the timeless troubles of growing up meet the murky shadows of World War II.

Deep in the tobacco land of North Carolina, nothing's been the same since the boys shipped off to war and worry took their place. Thirteen-year-old Lucy Brown is precocious and itching for adventure. Then Allie Bert Tucker wanders into town, an outcast with a puzzling past, and Lucy figures the two of them can solve any curious crime they find - just like her hero, Nancy Drew.

Their chance comes when a man goes missing, a woman stops speaking, and an eccentric gives the girls a mystery to solve that takes them beyond the ordinary. Their quiet town, seasoned with honeybees and sweet tea, becomes home to a Nazi prisoner-of-war camp. More men go missing. And together, the girls embark on a journey to discover if we ever really know who the enemy is.

Lush with Southern atmosphere, All The Little Hopes is the story of two girls growing up as war creeps closer, blurring the difference between what's right, what's wrong, and what we know to be true.

We loved this story and all the intertwined relationships -taking us back to the feelings and experiences of the 1940's while dealing with life issues common to all generations.

Great story for then and now!

I loved this book— the storylines, characters, dialogue— and the sensitive handling of life in the South of the 1940s, which can so easily become a stereotype. The strong, complex, thinking female characters were refreshing. It’s beautifully written and narrated well, plus there are mysteries that remain unsolved until the very end. I highly recommend it!

A beautifully written book

Anyone reading this that has been touched by the ugly of life that have left scars deep inside them might think thoughts of skepticism after listening to this novel. I hope you let that go and know that this story is out there now, the kindness, the happiness, the good the bad and the ugly that was present years ago. By all the feelings, and all the emotions that goes along with feelings, we learn and share with others and it's these other's, the one's who listen there is a magic that happens. Never forget, what is shared by someone, to someone who is willing to listen, a powerful gift is at work. Pay forward always with your feelings, let your emotion show too, accept what is offered and without anyone knowing, along the way, a good is born.

Only disappointment is how the book ended so abruptly. Otherwise, this is an enchanting little story.

Exceeded all of my expectations! So good, all the way around: the story, the performance (outstanding!), the characters, the way it all wraps up in the end. This is a good one, folks! I highly recommend it. Listen for free(!☺️) while it is still being offered on Audible Plus…..🤣
