About this listen

Oscar-winning screenwriter and novelist Aaron Latham dazzles listeners with a spectacular Western of epic proportions. Using the myth of King Arthur and Camelot as his model, Latham introduces a colorful cast of cowboys and ranchers striving to prosper in late-1800s Texas.

When a one-eyed youngster named Jimmy Goodnight amazingly manages to free an axe stuck fast in an anvil at the county fair, folks take note that this boy will grow up to be someone important, a leader.

Now an adult, Jimmy runs Home Ranch where, rumor has it, he talks to the animals, and they listen. But trouble has come to the canyon. When Jimmy and his boys chase off a band of outlaws menacing a beautiful woman named Revelie Sanborn, a series of violent events erupts that tests Jimmy's rule.

This critically acclaimed novel features a rollicking reading from narrator Henry Strozier who employs a full range of unique voices for the characters.

oater

This is a life story that is a bit overstated. Not quite Paul Bunyun like but still a bit unbelievable. I like westerns and this one did hold my interest. Not for the faint of heart as there is a lot of gore, but if that does not bother you it should be worth a download.

A Unique Approach to a Western

I liked this story, because 99.9% of westerns come from a boiler plate formate. This interesting mixture of fairy tale and rough western realism was a pleasure.

Code of the West

Kind of a strange book. Weird names for the characters. Not what I would call a good old western. Would not recommend.
