Story
Eight true crime stories of murder and mayhem. In my first audiobook as a true crime author I've started with a few of the stories that have haunted me for some time. Some of these stories are unbelievable in their brutality while others are astounding in the stupidity of the killers. This collection of stories are from all around the globe and have no common thread between them other than that they are both thought provoking and disturbing. The stories included in this anthology are dark and creepy and will leave you with a new understanding of just how fragile the human mind can be.

Story
Ryan is a detective with the abused-persons unit of the Mass. State Police. He balks when his supervisor assigns him to a case with the cold-case unit - everyone in Cold Case is an alpha, and that’s just not a comfortable place for an unclaimed omega to be. Nick is a detective with the cold-case unit. He’s a strictly by-the-book detective. Ryan and Nick butt heads almost immediately, although it doesn’t take long for either detective to figure out that at least part of the reason for their strife is the scorching chemistry between them.

Publisher's summary
Murders, rapes, and other crimes happen every single day. These are not cases that stand out in some unique sort of way, simply cases that have gone down in the books as horrifying.
Discarded bodies, missing women, stolen identification. It would seem as if we are talking about this week's news stories, but in fact, we are talking about some of the most notorious cases that police have ever faced.
Some of these cases were solved, some of them gone cold, and some of them seem oddly familiar to what we see going on today.
Sometimes it may make you wonder if a notorious serial killer is lurking in the shadows in your neighborhood....
From America's first serial killer to America's Unknown Child, each case is chilling and completely true. The stories might just make you thankful for the life that you are living and make you watch out for those that live in your neighborhood....
Here's a preview of what's in this book....

- The Boy in the Box

Story
In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

Story
For decades, Sandra Brown’s life has been intertwined with someone she has never met: an eleven year-old girl named Moira Anderson – who disappeared from their hometown of Coatbridge, Scotland, in 1957. It became one of the oldest cold cases in Scottish history. Sandra lived just around the corner from Moira. She grew up hearing about the missing girl, whose memory haunted the town. But she never imagined that, one day, she would be the one trying to uncover what happened. Or that her search for answers would reveal secrets and lies so close to home.

Monster stories aren’t just meant to entertain. They’re meant to inform, even educate. Above all, they ask us to question our own humanity. Nowhere is this truer than in stories of serial killers. What are the origins of this monstrous archetype? Why are we so fascinated with such gruesome terror? What do they reveal about our fears and anxieties? Explore these and other questions in Serial Killers: Real and Imagined, where public scholar Emily Zarka looks at the serial-killer trope across history, from murky 17th-century legends to 21st-century true-crime obsessions.

Story
In weeks after the September 11 attacks, 18-year-old Mansoor Adayfi was kidnapped by Afghan militia and sold to US forces for bounty money. After months of interrogations, he was sent to the US military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, as one of its first prisoners. Like the nearly 800 other men imprisoned at Guantanamo, Adayfi didn’t know why he was imprisoned or for how long. He had never seen a skyscraper and couldn’t imagine what the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center looked like, much less how they were destroyed.

Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Do not waste your money
There was not one thing of interest in this short book. No insight I found myself going on line just to get an idea of each of the cases the famous ones I knew more of the details than were in the book. It was like he just got a few headlines together. This is a most bewildering book.

Pathetic!
I’m very upset that I spent a credit on such a ridiculous something called a book, but even worse for the time that I wasted on listening to it! The absolute worst book I’ve ever purchased and I have over 600 books in my library. That should speak for itself.
Please don’t waste your money nor time as I did.
