About this listen

Pulse: The Untold Story, an Audible Original from journalist Trevor Aaronson and Western Sound, investigates the Pulse nightclub shooting and raises startling questions about the FBI’s culpability.

In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11.

But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

Through a relentless and thorough investigation, Aaronson uncovers the volatile relationship between the shooter and his father and how their troubled interactions with the FBI lead to a disturbing final question: Could the FBI have prevented the massacre?

Pulse: The Untold Story is a documentary like no other. It will leave you wondering if anything you’ve heard about this case is true.

Warning: This program contains descriptions of violence and death and includes recordings from 911 calls and police body cameras from the night of the shooting. Listener discretion is advised.

Trevor's best work yet

An unbiased view from all angles, Aaronson covers one of the worst mass shootings in US history. A chilling report that leaves out politics, letting the listener form their own opinion on this condition plaguing the United States of America.

Unbelievable

This podcast was well produced and informative. I believed the narrative put out by the media at large. This makes me wonder how many more stories are merely propaganda or short-sided. Wow!

WOW! So sad, So interesting.

I liked that this was on the short end of things, a lot of these kinds of books are jam packed with fluff, but this was to the point. I never knew all of these details. The media definitely runs away with information and twists their narrative. So many moving parts that make you really question different government agencies. Overall, I definitely recommend this book. The performance was great, too. I really enjoyed the mixture of interviews and reading.

Captivating, necessary reexamination of the mass shootjng

A necessary reexamination of the Pulse shooting that looks critically at the FBI’s failures to prevent, and later communicate accurate info about, the shooting. While some of it’s hard to hear, it’s captivating storytelling.

Excellent Challenge to the Official Theory Behind the Killings

This book really makes one question the official theory of why the mass shooting at Orlando's Pulse nightclub occurred. Without giving away the story, I will simply state that the author/ narrator presents a compelling case for his theory, which is much more believable than many so-called conspiracy theories proposed for other large scale tragedies.

Although the shooter's death was inevitable under the circumstances, the truth of why he did it died with him. While we may never know the absolute truth, this book presents a very possible version of that truth that challenges the official story.

Very Interesting

This book dives deep into the world of counterterrorism and surveillance, revealing the complexities behind America's war on terror. The author does an incredible job of uncovering the untold stories behind the FBI's use of informants, the pressure on Muslim communities, and the ethical questions around national security and personal freedoms.

What really struck me was how it challenged my thinking about the balance between safety and civil liberties in today's world. Highly recommend if you're into investigative journalism, true crime, or just want a deeper look into the shadowy side of the War on Terror
