About this listen

Pulse: The Untold Story, an Audible Original from journalist Trevor Aaronson and Western Sound, investigates the Pulse nightclub shooting and raises startling questions about the FBI’s culpability.

In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11.

But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

Through a relentless and thorough investigation, Aaronson uncovers the volatile relationship between the shooter and his father and how their troubled interactions with the FBI lead to a disturbing final question: Could the FBI have prevented the massacre?

Pulse: The Untold Story is a documentary like no other. It will leave you wondering if anything you’ve heard about this case is true.

Warning: This program contains descriptions of violence and death and includes recordings from 911 calls and police body cameras from the night of the shooting. Listener discretion is advised.

I would like them to take another incident like this, research it and write up.

Unbelievable background story proving why the government and their FBI hoodlums cannot be trusted for two seconds.

I had no idea the true story behind Pulse! Living in Central Illinois we just believed what we heard. Having family members who are gay, the story sickened me. Now I am not sure I am glad they weren’t targeted but still so many died! 😢

The Truths

Incredibly disturbing tale of gun violence against a community and the role early narratives play in framing public opinion around what happened. This is one of the most well-done true crime originals I’ve listened to - it’s as informative as it is heartbreaking and sickening.

The FBI has to use more energy and resources to cover up missteps than to actually protect.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. This series was a complete eye opener into the tragic horrific night. I did not know half of the information that you had included in this series. How brave the victims that you interviewed were to tell their story. Again, well written, well executed and an all around excellent piece. Thank you

Outstanding!

horribly sad topic but great book going into the false narratives and the truth about the event that the media did not share. learned a lot

amazing book

This is a podcast series rather than a traditional audiobook.
I was familiar with the Pulse Nightclub shooting. This is the first time I have heard that the accepted narrative is apparently untrue. I had never heard about the FBI backstory that supports this theory. This seems to fit a trend in which a crime gets lots of coverage, but then fades of the mainstream news and details that are subsequently uncovered are never pushed to mainstream news. An interesting and informative listen.

There was a lot of new info for me.
