About this listen

A smart and deliciously funny novel by the best-selling author of The Friday Night Knitting Club - and "readers will be cheering" (Bookreporter.com)....

Shortly before turning the big five-oh, Cooking with Gusto! TV personality Augusta "Gus" Simpson finds herself planning a birthday party she’d rather ignore - her own. To make things worse, the network wants to boost her ratings by teaming Gus with the beautiful, ambitious, and younger Carmen Vega - the former Miss Spain, no less.

But Gus isn’t going without a fight - whether it’s off set with her two demanding daughters, on camera with the vicious beauty queen herself, or after hours with Oliver, the new culinary producer who’s raising Gus’ temperature beyond the comfort zone. Now, in pursuit of higher ratings and culinary delights, Gus might be able to rejuvenate more than just her career.

"Fresh, tasty Comfort Food goes down mighty easily.... Kate Jacobs’s breezy follow-up to her bestselling The Friday Night Knitting Club is a satisfying read that showcases Jacobs’s skill in creating endearingly flawed characters.... The kind of book you rush home to finish." (USA Today)

"[A] warm and irresistible story.... Highly recommended." (Library Journal)

"Jacobs has once again crafted a luxuriant yarn of a story.... Comfort Food is good for the heart and the soul, serving up a rich pastiche of friendship and motherhood, with a savory side of romance, too." (BookPage)

"Real comfort food makes us feel safe and warm inside. It brings together family and friends by blending years, memories, and tastes. The novel Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs brings all these elements to the table." (The Paper Palate)

Food Network

I didn't like the female narrator's low, raspy voice. But admittedly, she did a good job. But otherwise, if you are into the "Food Network" and cooking shows, you'll enjoy this.

Just makes you want to cook for your friends

Would you consider the audio edition of Comfort Food to be better than the print version?

I have only listened to the book and I loved it!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

All of them..........they all worked so well together and I was able to follow the story. It was worth the listen.

Which character – as performed by Barbara Rosenblat – was your favorite?

all of them............she is a great reader. I look for books read by Barbara Rosenblat just to hear her voice and enjoy her ability to make a story great.

Any additional comments?

Loved the book. Great sweet story, not mushy. Serious and funny. Good combo

Good Summer Read

Comfort Food is a light summer "read" that was enjoyable to listen to. I would have liked a little more character development of the daughters. They had the potential to be interesting characters to use as spin-off stories in the future.

What a dumb story!

This book is nothing short of stupid. I have long considered my words, wanting to be precise in my criticism in respect to the responsibility of a negative review. I can’t say this book is horrible, that would imply all components were failures, they were not. There was a thorough story line and a considered plot, it was just extremely dull. The characters were conceivable but were presented in such an unbecoming manner, at times even cringe-worthy. In all, it was just a stupid, boring story unworthy of the caliber of “The Knitting Club” trio. Someone had warned me it wasn’t as good as the trio, which I really enjoyed, but I never imagined it would be so dumb.
