About this listen

This funny and wise new memoir from Harrison Scott Key, winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor, will inspire laughter and hope for anyone who’s ever been possessed by a dream of what they want to be when they grow up.

Little-known author Mark Twain once said that the two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why. He's talking about dreams here, the destiny that calls every living soul to some kind of greatness. What Mr. Twain doesn't say is: A dream is also a monster that wants to eat you. Nobody tells you this part of the American dream - until now. In this new memoir, Congratulations, Who Are You Again, listeners join Harrison Scott Key on his outrageous journey to becoming a great American writer.

As a young boy in Mississippi, Harrison possessed many special gifts, such as the ability to read and complete college applications. And yet, throughout young adulthood, he failed at many vocations, until one day, after drinking perhaps too many beers and dusting off his King James Bible, he stumbled across a passage about a lonely pelican, which burst into flame inside him. In a mad blaze of holy illumination, Harrison realized his dream: to set the world afire with the light inside him. He would write a funny book. This was his dream.

With unforgettable wit and tenderness, Congratulations, Who Are You Again is Harrison’s instructive tale of pursuing his destiny with relentless and often misguided devotion, transforming his life beyond all comprehension: He becomes a signer of autographs, a doer of interviews, a casher of checks that are "worth more money than my father had ever imagined any of us might see, this side of a drug-related felony".

On this journey, Harrison finds that as he gains the world, he stands on the precipice of losing everything that means the most: his family, his mind, his soul. Hilarious, honest, and absolutely practical, Congratulations, Who Are You Again is a no-holds-barred look at the life of every ambitious human creature, whether you want to write books or make music, start a business or start a revolution. This is an audiobook for the dreamers.

Phenomenal

Bought on a whim and was shocked how good it is. This guy can write and there’s a very strong message. It’s Hilarious and heartfelt — an in the trenches look at his own character arc spanning years of hard work to become a writer. The guy’s resilience is impressive, his wit admirable, his dedication to family along the way something i strive to achieve as well. Inspiring and also just a real look at what it takes to be successful, what it takes to chase down a dream that’s calling you. I’ve listened to dozens and dozens of memoirs, this one really struck a chord with me. Give it a chance. A+ oh and the narrator is exceptional as well.

Loved this book!

The only way it could have been better is if the author had read it. I laughed out loud and listened 2 times back to back

Reality Lesson

Recommended by Andy Andrews. Harrison Scott Key is a genius! This is a must read for every writer! It’s right up there with Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird. Real. Funny. Informative. Read it after The World’s Largest Man. I’m off to read How to Stay Married and I’ve never been married.

So much to reflect on

Wish the author was reading this audio book. I could hear lines that I KNEW he would present differently. My brain kept trying to translate the sound into Keyenese.

Fun if you loved WLM

Like an epilogue to WLM. I enjoyed it and listened to it in a few sittings. I also bought the book and gifted it to a friend who loved WLM.

I didn’t love the narrator. HSK should have read this or at the very least a southerner. I wish I would have read this book instead of listened to it.

Funny and full of heart.

I heard this audiobook before HSK's first book, and while this book is more about his struggles writing that book, it certainly makes me want to pick up the World's Largest Man. The narrator is emotive and has good comic timing. Makes listening to the Audiobook a fun experience. The story moved me, inspired me, and provided gentle laughs throughout. Easy to recommend this.

Intriguing

Having read (or listened to) The World’s Largest Man first, it gave such insight into the process. He’s a genius. Huge fan here. And now I’m going to listen to the World’s Largest Man (for the 4th time).

Good read

I knew nothing about this book; but it was recommended. It’s funny and tells a great story, it’s very well written.

Excellent and Relatable

There were moments that almost brought me to tears. I really related to the chapters where he talked about having to be fake and lie in his life. Nobody tells you being an adult is lying on a daily basis and that the most successful people are the ones who are really good at it..... sigh

Anyway, I highly recommend it.

Long

It took forever to say and describe something before it happened. it went on and on. The F word was totally unnecessary.
