About this listen

King William has the crown of the Confessor but he has many enemies both at home and abroad. He has to subdue a land that does not want a Norman yoke upon its shoulders. When Richard fitz Malet is given the manor north of York he finds that it is a poisoned chalice and when the north rises against the Conqueror's rule, he finds himself alone and isolated. He has to mould his manor into a fighting force or face death.

Wish this series continued

Unique look inside the event which began the shaping of the western world as we know it. This series could have easily varied a third book and beyond. When the talented Mr Hosker finds time in his whirlwind of ingenious writing perhaps he will oblige. I’d be first on the list❤️

Promising Story Hindered by Simplistic Dialogue

While the plot shows promise, the writing style feels more suited to middle grade fiction, with dialogue that often restates the obvious rather than advancing the story or revealing character. Characters frequently explain what's already clear to the reader, creating a repetitive pace that detracts from the narrative flow. Readers accustomed to the sophisticated dialogue and nuanced character interactions found in historical fiction authors like Bernard Cornwell and Christian Cameron may find the conversational exchanges particularly jarring. Unfortunately, the narration is also mediocre.
