About this listen

The Living Curse

Conrad Edison is cursed. His foster parents die in horrible ways around his birthday, and he ends up back at the orphanage where he and the other children are treated like indentured servants. Forced to work the farm and perform other menial chores, Conrad holds no hope for a better life. When a man with the ability to control the minds of animals inexplicably tries to kill Conrad, the harrowing scrape with death gives him a new perspective on life. He discovers the man had a flying carpet and a talking phone and that the orphanage is only the front for an insidious slave ring.

Determined to elude his cursed fate, Conrad decides to escape the orphanage once and for all. The phone leads him to a magical place called Queens Gate, and for the first time in his life, he dares to hope for a better life. But unless he can free himself from the curse, the terrible secret it guards could destroy him.

The Anchored World

When Conrad meets a strange girl while practicing for the Arcane University entrance exam, she takes him through a crack in the world and into a mysterious realm called the Glimmer. Conrad's parents are seeking help from the Glimmer Queen so they can once again rule the Overworld.

The Broken Relic

When Conrad learns of an ancient artifact that might be able to reverse death, he dares to hope it might return Cora from the grave.

The Broken Relic, however, is highly sought-after by collectors, though nobody knows exactly what it is. After being kidnapped, chased, and nearly killed, Conrad realized he and his friends will be lucky to survive the preparations for the quest, much less the quest itself.

Galfandore?

So the reviews that compare this to Harry Potter are a bit accurate, but the story is definitely different enough to make it worth reading. It's fun, the characters are likeable, and there is a good amount of adventure. I had to laugh at the name of the headmaster (Galfandore)! The narration is also great! Well worth the credit and I will be continuing the series.

A Young Adult Box Set Of Incredible Value.

The Conrad Edison box set includes book one, "The Living Curse," book two, "The Anchored World" and book three, "The Broken Relic." Conrad Edison is a foster child who has experienced great loss. Every year, right around his birthday, a random tragedy occurs that kills his foster parents forcing him back to an orphanage that uses the children as indentured servants. One day a man with magical ability as well as a flying carpet shows up to murder Conrad and the story kicks into high gear from there.

Each Conrad Edison book is a self contained story and each story picks up where the previous one left off. The stories are highly entertaining and the narration is top notch. And then, of course, there is the obvious, you're getting three books for the price of one.

Finally, this free, review copy audiobook was given to me at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Very enjoyable

I’m only through the first book but I don’t think it’s that much like Harry Potter like others are saying. But let’s be honest, if you read enough you start to realize all genres have a certain formula they follow.

It’s really fun to learn what Conrad and the others were up to while Justin is trapped in other realms.

At the very beginning, the narrator sounds like an overly dramatic frat boy telling his friends a scary story but also trying to sound sexy. It’s jarring at first, but when you get into the story you forget about it and immerse yourself in the story. Overall, I really like the stories so far!!

similar to Harry Potter but not

Entertaining story sometimes a little too familiar ... Harry Potter, but a good entertaining story nonetheless. Story is little weak in places, but I was able to look past that.

Good Story, not so good narrator

The story takes a while to get going but is interesting and the world, especially if you read his other series, is really well done.

The narrator gets better from book to book but is not fun to listen to. Almost wish I had gotten an ebook that could have been heard via text to speech instead.

For fans of Harry Potter

There are definitely influences by Harry Potter, but it’s very much its own story. A few sneaky references to Princess Bride and other things are slipped in. I enjoyed this thoroughly.
