About this listen

You wouldn’t expect a detective with Sherlockian deductive skills to have amnesia, but Byron Constantine is hardly the detective you’d expect.

London 1888

Aspiring artist Mira Blayse isn’t concerned with upper-tier society or conforming to Victorian expectations—she has a murder to solve. At least, she thinks it was murder. Her parents’ deaths in 1870 couldn’t have been by accident, but the more she investigates, the less she seems to find. Sitting at a café, she sketches a mysterious stranger, not realizing that she’s penciling in the features of the man who will help her solve the case once and for all.

Byron Constantine lives day-to-day, desperately trying to hold onto his memories, only for them to slip through his fingers. Some days, he doesn’t even know that he’s lost four years of his life. As he manages to continue his work as a private detective, he realizes that maybe he doesn’t need his memory after all. That is until he wants to remember Mira Blayse.

With her keen eye for detail and his remarkable deductive skills, the two become entangled in a criminal investigation. As they uncover the secrets of the past, they must work together to stop history from repeating itself again.

Absolutely wonderful!!

Love love loved!! This was exactly what I was needing! It was so entertaining!
Going into it I had zero expectations which probably helped. The beginning felt a little slow but that’s most likely because I was listening to it at a slower speed to catch the world building details. Once hearts got involved, I was invested!

This story was masterfully done. Small hints here and there to imply the beginning of feelings between Byron and Mira. Single POV but that was perfect for the story seeing as Byron had memory loss so he would only have each day’s experiences to dwell on and the previous things he would read in his journal each day.

Such an interesting plot where the MC is a private investigator who has lost his memory and for four years, he wakes up thinking he’s still working on the case that possibly caused him the memory loss in the first place. He depends on his journal to give him a brief summary of what’s happened and his current case with Scotland Yard.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Super fun listen!!

Clean, zero spice romance. Mystery/suspense. Murder mentioned and some violence but not too much. Death of parents.

Big thanks to Natalie Brianne and Immortal Works for providing me with a copy of this audiobook!

A wonderful story read by a wonderful narrator

I’ve been wanting to read Natalie Brianne’s books for a while. I’m glad I got started with this one. It’s sometimes strange when an author reads their own fictional work. But once in a blue moon, it’s pulled off! Great work! Can’t wait to read more,

Fantastic Book!

This is a great book. I found myself wanting to listen to it more after starting it. The narration is pretty good (I hear that the author/narrator does other voice acting as well). It's a good read / listen, and I'm sad that the next book in the series isn't on audiobook yet, but I'll definitely be buying it when it does!

Captivating Historical Mystery Thriller

This was my first experience with Natalie Brianne's work, and I was entertained. The story was set in historical times. The characters were a detective with short term memory issues and an independent, artistic woman. I liked the characters and their persistence in spite of either society pressures or personal issues. The mystery was complicated. Natalie Brianne's narration was good as her voice was pleasant. There were long pauses at the end of each chapter. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

I liked the story. :)

It's a fun, clean language, historical, mystery. I thought it was well written, added and used clues that made sense, it was a nice mystery that you couldn't solve or guess the ending after five pages (or real fast).
I liked the strong women character, overcoming their weakness or anxiety with not conforming to society but making it work for them. I liked how the author switched things up and I thought it had nice pacing.
I enjoyed it! I'm interested in reading the next book, totally allows for a series.
