About this listen
Running. Hiding. Surviving. Neil Jordan and Dr. Caldwell lead the small band of desperate survivors through the hellish undead maelstrom. With their refuge compromised and behind them, Dr. Caldwell and the others including young Jules and Danny place their faith and their lives squarely in Neil’s hands.
Anchorage, once Alaska’s largest city, lay in ruins. Now a threatening maze of death, the city is firmly in the chilling grips of a frightening and expanding zombie horde. With life and death hanging on every decision, Neil tries to navigate the perils as best as he is able. Never far from his mind is the hope that this nightmare has been contained and there still exists a sane world free of infection.
First, they must survive and escape...

Story
In the wake of the cataclysmic events that reshaped our world in 2020, a sense of relief washed over us all. By late 2023, I think we were ready to just live life again. I know I was. It was a time to make new friends and put the past to rest. Rayne and I hadn’t known each other long, but we were building a solid friendship, nothing more. It was our common interests that sent us on vacation together to my remote cabin. What we didn’t, couldn’t know, was that we were on a collision course with the end of the world as we knew it.

Story
Years after the outbreak of a mysterious pandemic, hardly any survivors are left in the quarantined wasteland of North America. Hunger and the menace of man-eaters are nothing compared to the ferals–those who were infected and mutated by the virus. The ferals have an unquenchable need to hunt and kill, and even a single bite will quickly transform human into a rabid beast. Two survivors, the pregnant Megan and her brother David, leave a deserted colony to seek a safer haven.

Editorial reviews
In Containment: Alaskan Undead Apocalypse, Book 2, narrated by Daniel May with a baritone always bordering on the edge of suspense, the human-flesh-eating zombies have taken over the ruined city of Anchorage and have claimed the surrounding rugged terrain as their own to wreak havoc over every living thing.
A group of gutsy and resourceful survivors, led by Neil Jordan and Dr. Caldwell, must cross deep into the bloody wreckage of death and despair in an all-or-nothing last chance at finding a place free from the horrific reign of the undead.
A solidly entertaining zombie adventure.

Amidst the chaos, Cyrus sits back and contemplates the gore stained streets and screams of his fellow man with little more emotion than one of the walking corpses. Christopher Golden's Ararat is the heart-pounding tale of an adventure that goes wrong - on a biblical scale. When an earthquake reveals a secret cave hidden inside Mount Ararat in Turkey, a daring, newly engaged couple are determined to be the first ones inside...and what they discover will change everything. The cave is actually a buried ancient ship that many quickly come to believe is Noah's Ark. When a team of scholars, archaeologists, and filmmakers make it inside the ark, they discover an elaborate coffin in its recesses.

Too much Bible trash
I appreciate that most of the characters trash talk the Bible but I am so sick of constantly hearing Bible thumpers in the real world and people that buy into that garbage, I use these books as an escape and hearing constant people in this story preaching is just obnoxious. I realized that there's people like that in real life but the Bible story is fiction, I don't need to read another fiction book to hear about Bible trash. and all the talk of three and the trinity, reminded me too much of Adrian's undead diary. don't get me wrong this story is not bad. it was enjoyable enough and I'm going to probably listen to all of them but every single zombie story has to have some type of biblical cult or Bible thumpers and it's just annoying. I don't want to hear about that crap anymore than I already have to. it's bad enough that people actually believe that stuff to begin with in the real world I don't need my zombie stories to be filled with it too. but it's sad the story was enjoyable but now that I hear that they include the animals getting the virus and passing it along even if it's different and almost like rabies with them, I immediately stop reading any book on zombies that has the animals infecting people also. there is no way in hell that humanity would be able to even have a fighting chance for more than like, a week if animals could get it too. there's too many effin animals and it just takes away all the fun because as much as I can suspend disbelief, I just can't do it with the animals getting infected. no way. horrible addition and it's sad because everything else was going really good in this book and I liked it. and that ruined it for me.

Shallow story + filler = boring
The first and last hour were okay but everything between was soooo boring. I kept hoping for a story but it was more like hours of descriptions of things that didn't matter. There was too much conversation and not enough happening for hours and hours. I almost stopped listening but wanted to give an accurate review. This is the worst zombie book I've read.

Ugh! Pronunciation!!!!!
Nothing bugs me more when a story teller can’t pronounce places and things. Being from Alaska, I cringed each time I heard these places mispronounced.

why does it end half why through ?
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
only if you dont have to wait for the next instalment. I actually enjoyed this zombie story, but it ended like the first one with no real ending.
What does Daniel May bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
he was a good story teller
Was Containment worth the listening time?
no i want a proper ending, I wont get the next one because the author will just do his same old trick to keep the story going then probarly kill everyone off
Any additional comments?
no

Second book actually got better
Its not too often that a series actually improves on the original but this time it did. The story and characters deepened considerably. Almost the entire first book was a great scene setter for the first stages of the infection, which is usually just the first few chapters of most other books.
This second book doesn't rush through anything either and plenty of time is devoted to the characters and group dynamics. Even a secondary character gets plenty of depth through the telling of an plot-irrelevant but interesting WW II story.
Neil is a great leader, although he doesn't take up too much space. Malikai turns out to be a really interesting character. And Kim...oh Kim...I still think about her!
The book is also unpredictable, nothing turned out as I expected it would.
The one stupid thing is with the car; I'm with Emma (think it was her) on this and don't know why they didn't try to find another one. Who wants to be out on foot for any reason let alone a zombie apocalypse? Bicycles would be better!
The ending is, similarly to the first book, kinda weak. I described the ending as a cliff hangar in the first book, but its not really. With both books perhaps its more like a speed bump. Both the books just kinda end with little climax and resolution. Maybe that's just the zombie style ending the author is going for, not everything has to end with a bang and happy feeling.
All the same, this is definitely one of the better zombie series out there and its now one of my favorites.

HORIBBLE NARRATOR!!!!!
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Standard, but entertaining Zombie story.
Any additional comments?
Do some research on the proper pronunciation of unfamiliar locations! I'm a live long Alaskan and can only assume that the narrator was intentionally trying to mispronounce things as he did on nearly every location name.

aaarrgghhhh! what happened?!!?
Any additional comments?
i was excited to pick up this 2nd installment after enjoying the first book. strong start. well the 1st 20 minutes or so. it tells the story of what happened to part of the military. but by the time i finished, yes i finished, i was disappointed.
where's the editor? did a zombie eat his or her brain. it was like...hmmnn...i think i'll try adding this character for a little while. no, i don't like her. so, i'll make her disappear. hmmnn...let's try adding this plot device. no. i'll end it with a shot.
this story was all over the place! 1st, there's this wacko christian lady who's overly judgmental. yes, her character was annoying. she and the cop, ivanof, bond over a warped fundamentalist worldview. you get the feeling she's going to do something really bad, but she doesn't. well...not really. then, she's gone for the rest of the book. it was like a hour filler. whew! i though. maybe i can listen w/o cringing so much.
then, there's this kind of love triangle that forms b/ween neil, megan, and this other guy. ok, kinda interesting. he gets shot by officer ivanof, who's slowly been going insane. boom! that filler ends. neil and megan act pissy toward each other for the rest of the story.
btw, ivanof's slide into madness isn't dramatic or interesting. he sits alone, imagining his daddy.
the rest of the story follows the group running through the city being chased by zombies. the 2 kids, danny and jules, are hardly mentioned. they're quietly playing, sleeping in the other room, or keeping up with the adults as they run through the city. it would've been nice to get some commentary from them, but they're mostly an afterthought.
however, there ws one unique aspect that i haven't come across in any other zombie novels. the group runs across another group of survivors who have been hiding in a bus since the beginning. their story was harrowing! that could be made into an interesting zombie novel by itself. ahhh...i digress. anyway, they are decrepid, stinky, and weak from lack of food, water, and movement. but they can run! sorry, i'm being facetious.
gore: very little compared to the last story.
action: light. lots of running and lots of talking.
sense of dread: non-existent. sooo unlike the 1st book.
zombies: not that threatening.
overall...hard to make it through the book. i had high expectations for the 2nd book, but it fell flat.

Anti-Christian projections
Any additional comments?
I get it, you don't like Christianity, or religion in general. But enough already. Every Christian character in the book is a deranged Sociopath. The story was well written, but every couple of minutes he had to interject how that particular (or other Christian character) has some hidden ill intent, or lashes out at the group for some perceived harm done to them.
I hate to write bad reviews, but enough already with the twisted characters in zombie books. He obviously doesn't like Christianity, and he obviously has some issues he projects onto Christian characters in his book. I should have stopped with his first one, as that was bad enough, but this one was worse.
