Critic reviews

"I loved this novel so much, even though it’s probably the most heart-breaking story I’ve read all year...it will totally absorb you and capture your heart." ( That Thing She Read)
"I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down. It has all the ingredients for a perfect read: fantastic, loveable and very real characters, an emotional and compelling storyline, and a brilliant setting in time and place." (Louise Douglas)

Very Creative

Disliked how Ralph took advantage of Dottie. Loved all the other characters involved. I hope there is another book.

Don’t hesitate; download this book and enjoy…

The combination of author and narrator has made these two books one of the best listening experiences to date. The characters are so believable that I feel as though I know them and must have grown up with the author as we knew exactly the same people! These books are so heartwarming, human honest. If you’re reading reviews to decide if the books are worth spending that precious monthly credit, then don’t hesitate; start with See Saw Lane and follow on with this one. If you’ve found it in the free list then download both books very quickly before somebody cottons on that these are works of contemporary genius and asks for a credit. Fantastic narrator, wish they were all as good as this one.

Their love for each other

I enjoyed the story, especially after the first book. The narrator almost ruined it for me. I had trouble figuring out who was talking, except for when she used that horrible stupid voice that she used for Rita. I was almost tempted to fast forward so that I didn’t have to listen to it!!

Why end a great series like this

Book 1- Amazing. Great story. Great narrator.

Book 2- very good. Narrator sounds like she is screeching. She has an amazing voice for a few characters like Dotty, Polly, and her mom, Marleen. But everyone else sounds horrid! Nelson’s character was totally changed. As was Brendas. And why in the world would you make Rita such a witch? I’m not sure if it is the author or the poor narration, or probably both, that made 3 of the best characters so horrible. Brenda and Rita sound like men!

Book3- why ,why, why? Just why!!!??? You had such a good series and you crucified most of the main characters. Love Rose, Tristen, Steven, Polly, Milly, Marleen, Ralph, and Doty’s narration. The rest of them were horrible. You made them sound like hicks. And they were not. Nelson, Brenda, & Rita were not low class citizens. They may not have had money. But they made up for that in class. You took a well written story about love, abuse, mental illness, poverty, honor, and friendship in the book
“When we danced at the end of the pier”. You gave us such a great story in that one to give the 2nd one a ehh, to the 3 one(besides Rose, Steven, Tristen, & Polly) to repeat, rewind, & play and on & on..... Such a shame. And the narrator should not be doing men’s voices or reading for more than a few characters. She isn’t bad at all unless she is trying to..

Story about love, friendship and loss.

Nice story to read before bedtime. The narrator’s voice when doing some of the characters, like Rita, was very grating.
