About this listen

When paramedic Nick Swain responds to a shooting in a seedy neighborhood, his entire world is thrown off its axis. His life is threatened...twice. Allegations of racism and medical neglect threaten his career and his ability to sleep at night. Not that he'll be sleeping any time soon after the incident throws him into the path - and arms - of Detective Andrew Carmichael.

One hot night after another with Andrew may help Nick relieve some work-related stress, but sex won't solve every problem in his life. With the media hounding him and the city watching his every move, he starts to wonder if the world is out to get him.

The world may not be out to get him, but someone is.

And that someone wants Nick dead.

Oh My God!

I don't know how L.A. Witt knew about the boys in my head .... the cop and the paramedic; but she certainly brought them deliciously to life.

Nick and Andrew met at a crime scene. Nick a paramedic, and Andrew a cop meet up when Nick responds to a call with multiple casualties. Nick is helping save Andrew's partner.

The results of the call bring the two together. Nick is put into danger from the call, and what starts out as a one night stand develops into something deeper.

The end had me in tears. And full of suspense. L.A. Witt is masterful in her writing. I didn't want to stop listening, or for the story to end.

Charlie David gives a wonderful narration that brings Nick and Andrew to life with a lot of emotion. His voice is calming, yet commanding, powerful and emotional.

Overall grest!

This was such an exciting book when they weren't having unnecessary dialogue. It probably could've been shorter but overall really great. You get to a small glimpse of the life of a paramedic and the hard decisions they have to make. It's filled with those decisions that make you say you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. It's a must buy though. Just be patient for some parts.

Extremely suspenseful and encouraging

Amazing and courageous men who work on the teams to make sacrifices for us. And out of it all love sometimes finds its way through the difficult times. Great reads!!!

Very sexy thriller

A little bit on the long side, but this sexy tale of a paramedic in danger after witnessing a shooting, and the detective determined to protect him, and solve a homicide, is a nice thrill ride.

The characters are well fleshed out, and there's just enough action, drama, humor, and romance to keep the story interesting, without veering off course into angst-ridden foolishness. The Cover Me series only ran for three books before Witt brought it to an end, but this one can be read as a standalone.

It's betokened by a strong opening, and tear-worthy ending, with a thrilling climax in between, and Charlie David's narration was equally solid.

as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

Great Story

Strong, well-developed characters, a good plot, and good grammar and punctuation combine to make stimulating read that will bring the reader back for more. I now own three series from L. A. Witt. And so far, I haven't found another author who tell a story as good as she does.

I wanted to like this

But I like fluffy and this left me really sad. It's a shame because I really got into the characters and just feel a bit bummed out about the whole deal.

Great beginning and ending but the middle was slow

The first few chapters were so exciting and I loved them - the last few chapters were also really exciting and I loved them. However, the middle part kind of bored me. Then there was the fact that Nick already had so many issues dealing with trauma that I have a VERY hard time believing he will get past his guilt and trauma for the way things went down at the end of the book. He isn't willing to get help and I just feel like that will greatly impact his relationship.

Good story...just longer than it needed to be

I love L.A. Witt and 9 times outta 10 I want some of her books to last longer than they are...that was not the case with "Cover Me" there were scenes that seemed to drag on...and on...and with that narrator they seemed to drone on as well so that by the end I was pretty much over it and looking for my next title... but I stayed the course...wanted to know how this title wraps up. One of the reasons I love L.A. Witt is that when her MMCs first meet it's not OTT; usually they meet in the most realistic circumstances that you're on board right away...but in Witt style it's still sexy as hell 😏.
As for Charlie David....he has a pleasing voice but he takes deep and sometimes long breaths after the end of a sentence so it gives us the impression that he is reading something rather than performing it. His style doesn't take you away from the story itself, but it does not allow you to immerse yourself into it either. All I can say is he narrates well but his performance skills are sub par.

3 stars - I won't listen again
