Publisher's summary

Alex Maguire never thought he'd go home again. The perfect soldier, the perfect leader, he's spent his whole life running away from Blue Valley, Montana - but when a tragic accident bounces him and two of his men out of the SEALs, there's nowhere left to turn but the ranch he used to call his own...and the confusing, innocently beguiling woman who now lives there.

Becca Denton's like nothing he could have imagined. She's far too tempting for her own good, but when she offers to help turn the ranch into a haven for injured veterans, he can't exactly say no. He'll just need to keep his distance. But something in her big green eyes makes Alex want to set aside the mantle of the perfect soldier and discover the man he could have been...safe and whole within the shelter of her arms.

Contains mature themes.

RomComDrama

Romy Nordlinger gave voice to the shy Becca. By the end of the story, though readers knew Alex and Becca would get together, it was heartwarming to have Alex realize his need to face PTSD. The struggle Alex faced gave a face to veterans' need for support. I was hoping to get to know Gabe and Jack who play important intervention and support roles, but their characters were not fleshed out enough to make me see them as three-dimensional. I warmed to Jack especially and really wanted to know him more. Mom was very annoying. I wanted a bigger picture of the foundation and even see townspeople coming to be a part of their lives. So for me, I wanted more.

Can hear every swallow of narrator.

Every time the narrator swallows you can hear it. Very annoying. Will not listen to anything else from her.

Not for me...

I am two chapters in and calling it quits. Should have been a warning or blurb in the description stating stepbrother/sister romance. Even when related by marriage i just can't hear it. Not my cup of tea.

Slow very slow moving

Update: seven hours into this book and Becca is constantly acting like a sex crazed 15 yr old. There really is NO ROMANCE to this story at all. I’m not even finishing this book. Such a disappointment.

The story plot might be really good except 90% is from Becca’s point of view and she talks way too much in her head. It’s more than three hours (13 chapters) into the book before Alex and Becca even acknowledge they like each other. Chapter 19 for the first date. Narration is mediocre, would be better if there was a male and female narrator. A lot of the details don’t add, which is a big deal for me because I seem to notice all the “Little” differences. Like Alex has been in the navy for 10 years, he is also 10 years older than Becca- Becca states that she is 25 which would make Alex 35… however he enlisted at 18 after graduating from HS. This wouldn’t be a big deal except there are so many times their ages are mentioned, as is his years of service, that it became frustrating to listen to. Not sure I will waste my time on the other books in this collection.

Sloooowwww

This book's pacing was slower than molasses in January. I'm four hours in, and the plot, romance, and character arc have barely moved along. The main female character is so naive and unrelatable. The male lead is so hot and cold it's difficult to like him.
