Publisher's summary

Jack Armstrong's been slowly piecing his life back together after a career-ending injury bounced him from the SEALs. The only trouble is, his family's on their way to his new haven in Montana...and Jack refuses to let them know he's still hurting. Desperate, he makes a deal with local bad girl Rose Rogers: In exchange for some extra security, she'll play the perfect loving girlfriend.

Rose doesn't trust any man, much less some tough-as-nails former SEAL. But the more they settle into their ruse, the more things start to feel real, and the more Rose's true fear surfaces - that she'll never be good enough for love.

But Jack isn't about to lose Rose. He's done running when things get tough, and he's determined to prove - once and for all - that even the most troubled hearts can find their way to redemption.

Contains mature themes.

Great series & narrator!

I'm loving this series and the 2nd is even better than the first! Romy Nordlinger handles the sensitive parts as well as the funny parts. It's very moving and I luv the characters. Can't wait for the next!

Narration bad

Hard to tell what character was doing what because the narrator sounded the same for all the players.

Third book I've heard from this author,..

This is the third book I've tried from this author, and there's a definite character type. "I suck, I don't deserve love. I'm a bad person, and if this great person finds out the REAL me, they won't want me, so I'll (deny, berate myself, run away), etc." I feel like this author has potential to write a good or even a great story, but for the love of everything, stop with the "I'm not good for anyone" main character trope. One time, I guess I could see that, but after three books from two different series, and at least one of the main characters in each of the books I've listened to spending 90 percent of the story lamenting their unworthiness, which is always unfounded, it's just tiring and uninteresting.

The MC in this story had good qualities, interesting back stories, good chemistry. There were some happy moments, and some funny ones. I really liked the female MC in the beginning, as she was strong and sassy, kind and funny. I think that's why it was so disappointing when she turned out to be the one with the "not good enough" complex, because it just didn't seem like the same character at all. I think I'm done with this author for a while, but I'd be willing to try again in the future.

If you have the club package, this isn't a bad listen. This review is more about the cumulative effect of three books in a row by the same author all having the same trope, and not to say this book isn't worth a listen. It's definitely the best of the three I listened to.
