About this listen

Hits the ground running, taking you into a bizarre existence that few survive. This book really *cranks*. A shockingly honest account that leaves you fascinated but grinding your teeth—in the tradition of Tweak, Blow, Fear and Loathing, and Breaking Bad.

Conner is a love-lost soul who dreads a nagging preordained destiny. Returning to his rural hometown in Oklahoma, he finds an irresistible netherworld of heathen cranksters; meth-heads marauding the countryside. A deal for ten moonshine jugs of phenyl-2-propanone with the hag Crazy Sadie sends Conner deep into the dark foothills of the Kiamichi Mountains with his childhood friend Tenkiller, where an eclectic collection of hilarious and horrific characters confronting karma, destiny, and non-conformity collide with consequences that spiral Conner into an unreality of waking death.

Breaking Bad x 2

Very good story telling. The narrator did a great job. Exactly how you would expect a tweaker to sound, expressions…may have triggers.

Great story with brilliant characters-one of my top 10 favorite books of all time

It is rare to find a book that encompasses the full range of human emotions. Full of humor, regret, shame, embarrassment, horror and hope; this is a brave look into a world not many survive unscathed. It does contain strong language & explicit adult situations, so those who are easily triggered or shocked should be forewarned. I loved this book and consider it one of my top 10 favorite books of all time. A must read.

A Brilliant Journey

Michael Couch shows us the world of the meth addict, the 'crankster'. That world is brilliantly and graphically laid bare in striking detail. We see and are moved through the lived life of the addict, the mundane and the horrific. Cranksters is graphic, detailed, and authentically personal, showing us the inner world, the 'behind the eyes' experience, of the addict, providing the reader with a deep sense of understanding and empathy. "Cranksters" is the best read of its kind that I have encountered.

This had me laughing, gagging and crying..

I went into this book with no expectations other than - This is going to be really good or really bad. I read the reviews where some stated this was their favorite book. I was skeptical. I get it now. I laughed a lot and at times gagged/felt uneasy (At the snot stuff...ok and the one sex encounter). In the end I found myself tearing up. It was validating to hear someone explain their thoughts on everything in those last few chapters because it aligned with my own thoughts/beliefs. And then in the end I was laughing out loud again.

good story telling and narration

This was a compelling story about crank users in Oklahoma. It depicts believable characters who also become likable despite their criminal behavior.
