Publisher's summary

Marriage. It's a double-edged sword, or at least it is for Nikki Heat. Her husband, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jameson Rook, infuriates her in a way no one else in her entire life has ever done. He also takes her to heights of pleasure she has never experienced. But most of all, she loves the man with all her heart, and she'd do anything to protect him. Which is just what she had done not so long ago. It had almost cost them everything.

Now, Rook is given the honor to be a visiting professor at his alma mater, and he can't pass up the opportunity to mentor burgeoning writers at his former award-winning college newspaper. Shortly after his arrival on campus, a female reporter for the paper is found dead - naked - in Rook's bed.

Dealing with betrayal from any man is not Nikki's style. She and Jameson have had plenty of conflicts during their complicated relationship, but none like this. Is her husband keeping secrets of his own, or can she really trust him?

In order to find out, Nikki gives Jameson the benefit of the doubt and digs into Jameson's theory of a secret society within a secret society. What she finds puts her investigative skills, and her marriage, to the test.

Please bring back the good stuff

Having been a fan of the Castle novels from the first, as well as a fan of the TV series, I've happily anticipated each new installment of the Nikki Heat and Derrick Storm series. "Crashing Heat" started out pretty good, but in the end is not up to the standard set by earlier Heat novels. The narrative here seemed to focus more on the hormonal interactions between Heat and Rook than on developing a real story. Where's the suspense of "High Heat" or the action of "Heat Storm"? This book turned out to be more of soap opera than a murder mystery. Please bring back the good stuff.

Mr Castle must be getting old.

Another great book by Me Castle, however he is beginning to show signs of senility. He forgot that he had killed off Detective Heinsberg in an earlier book. Shot through the temple I believe.

Weaker than the prior books

This goes too far down a rabbit hole and conspiracy. The prior ones were fun. This one, not so much...

Back to the Basics!

Just a solid good murder mystery for Heat and Rook to solve. Fun and entertaining.

Castle came through again for his listeners

I will be honest, this installment of the Heat series was much different than the previous installments within the series. This story focused more on Heat and Rook as a couple then in any of the previous stories. it was nice to hear them grow as a newly married couple.

Have not finished. Characters magically back to life

I haven’t finished but what ruins the whole book for me is that now Sharon Heinzburg is back alive! Like how? Bart Callan shot her in the head.....in front of Nikki! Did Cynthia coming back just magically reverse time and undo Sharons hole in her head and make her not a sell out. Like how could someone not notice this. It took me all of 3 mins to notice. I thought I was hearing things but nope she’s alive again.

Always a fun listen... even with murder.

I thought that with the end of the series the books would have stopped but was very glad to find this one. I love the way the book plays out like the TV show and I see the characters from the TV going through the story. Enjoyed it thoroughly!
