About this listen

Marriage. It's a double-edged sword, or at least it is for Nikki Heat. Her husband, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jameson Rook, infuriates her in a way no one else in her entire life has ever done. He also takes her to heights of pleasure she has never experienced. But most of all, she loves the man with all her heart, and she'd do anything to protect him. Which is just what she had done not so long ago. It had almost cost them everything.

Now, Rook is given the honor to be a visiting professor at his alma mater, and he can't pass up the opportunity to mentor burgeoning writers at his former award-winning college newspaper. Shortly after his arrival on campus, a female reporter for the paper is found dead - naked - in Rook's bed.

Dealing with betrayal from any man is not Nikki's style. She and Jameson have had plenty of conflicts during their complicated relationship, but none like this. Is her husband keeping secrets of his own, or can she really trust him?

In order to find out, Nikki gives Jameson the benefit of the doubt and digs into Jameson's theory of a secret society within a secret society. What she finds puts her investigative skills, and her marriage, to the test.

I've really enjoyed the Richard Castle collection. I can hardly wait for the next book.

wonderful book

Having been a fan of the Castle novels from the first, as well as a fan of the TV series, I've happily anticipated each new installment of the Nikki Heat and Derrick Storm series. "Crashing Heat" started out pretty good, but in the end is not up to the standard set by earlier Heat novels. The narrative here seemed to focus more on the hormonal interactions between Heat and Rook than on developing a real story. Where's the suspense of "High Heat" or the action of "Heat Storm"? This book turned out to be more of soap opera than a murder mystery. Please bring back the good stuff.

This one was so good! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the references they made and the investigation was interesting.

This goes too far down a rabbit hole and conspiracy. The prior ones were fun. This one, not so much...

Weaker than the prior books

Another great book by Me Castle, however he is beginning to show signs of senility. He forgot that he had killed off Detective Heinsberg in an earlier book. Shot through the temple I believe.

Mr Castle must be getting old.

I have listened to every book in this series along with the Storm series. I love all the books. However this book bugged me as it didn’t really fit the other books.

Also I noticed that Hinesberg who was was shot and killed in one of the earlier books is miraculously back from the dead and forgiven for her “ Bad Deeds”. It just bugs me that the detail was overlooked.

Good book. Did not fit the series

Just a solid good murder mystery for Heat and Rook to solve. Fun and entertaining.
If you miss Castle, read/listen to these books by Richard Castle.

I will be honest, this installment of the Heat series was much different than the previous installments within the series. This story focused more on Heat and Rook as a couple then in any of the previous stories. it was nice to hear them grow as a newly married couple.

I love the Nikki Heat/Derrick storm series. Was thrilled there was another book, good story line with this one. Felt that the character of Nikki wasn't as strong in this one and the numerous times that they couldnt keep their hands off each other got a little annoying and was juvenile and distracting, but I love them as a couple so it was forgiven. Wasn't the best one in the series but worth the listen and I hope there is another book soon!

Love this series!
