Publisher's summary

In this engrossing and gripping fantasy set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, an inn owner and her friends must find a killer—before it’s too late.…

Crowbones will gitcha if you don’t watch out!

Deep in the territory controlled by the Others—shape-shifters, vampires, and even deadlier paranormal beings—Vicki DeVine has made a new life for herself running The Jumble, a rustic resort. When she decides to host a gathering of friends and guests for Trickster Night, at first everything is going well between the humans and the Others.

But then someone arrives dressed as Crowbones, the Crowgard bogeyman. When the impostor is killed along with a shape-shifting Crow, and the deaths are clearly connected, everyone fears that the real Crowbones may have come to The Jumble—and that could mean serious trouble.

To “encourage” humans to help them find some answers, the Elders and Elementals close all the roads, locking in suspects and victims alike. Now Vicki, human police chief Grimshaw, vampire lawyer Ilya Sanguinati, and the rest of their friends have to figure out who is manipulating events designed to pit humans against Others—and who may have put Vicki DeVine in the crosshairs of a powerful hunter.

Riveting

The narrator did a wonderful job of voicing the characters, especially Vicki since she was so mercurial. The elementals and others played a huge part of the story, and the build up to who was being hunted kept me glued to the story. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and see how the new characters will change things.

WOW

This book took me back to a land that I had actually forgotten existed! I was excited to visit the area again and revisit some of the experiences and the personalities of the characters. This book held my interest until the end and I really was sorry when it ended. The narrator brought the characters to life and I could tell one from the other just by the tone of voice and the words used. outstanding read

More Enjoyable Guilty Pleasure

At this point, the series is definitely a guilty pleasure. For the most part, we get the same themes and characters oft repeated but that is what makes the series endearing. With Crowbones nothing changes: one sweet and somewhat innocent but put upon human woman is protected by the Others, selfish and greedy (and kind of stupid) persons come to town and make trouble. The Others wipe them out. Rinse. Repeat. Add in grizzy police guy and lots of fun Others and you get the idea. The difference here is that where Meg dealt mostly with the Wolfguard, Vickie is intimately involved with the Crowguard.

Story: Trickster Night is approaching and Vickie has mixed feelings about it. But when a mysterious masked creature appears at Vickie's door and terrifies the Crowguard, the bodies soon begin piling up.

I appreciated that the 'big bads' of this book included a female instead of the usual sexist misogynistic males who inhabit this world. Of course, we always want to see how the Others will help our protagonist cope and survive against a world of mean humans. The Sanguinati are still fun and they have a larger role to play this time as well.

Of note, I listened to the Audible version and the narrator did a decent job. It is the same narrator as the previous books in the series.

worth the wait

waited a long time for this new book in the Others series - worth the wait. Anne Bishop is simply: magic!
Narrator (Alexander Harris) as always, brought the book alive for me
wish we don't have to wait another 12-18 months for next instalment though 😌

Good Story as Usual

I love this series, and the fact you don't fully know where the story will take you. It also looks like there will be another story to come to Lake Silence.

Another wonderful journey in the mind of others

Anne Bishop has once again brought a mystery to life with her unique twists and characters! Having loved her first series. I was amazed at the creative genius of the Others. She seems to have a gift for bringing her characters to life and making us invested in their futures. Now to wait impatiently for the next book from this great author!
