Publisher's summary

"What do you do if the only way to live is to die?"

When 29-year-old Tara Cooper discovered she was terminally ill, she refused to accept her fate. She felt that there must be a cure to her horrific disease.

There was.

She could become a vampire.

Handsome 800-year-old vampire Druian Kablarian had already taken a liking to Tara and he was willing to be the vampire to take her over to the dark side.

But only if she agreed to do something for him also.

A new take on vampires

I really liked this story, it deals with vampires in a way I haven't seen before (and I read a lot), I found it interesting that the government regulates the creation of new vampires.

Tara's story is heartbreaking, Druian is fascinating. The chemistry between them isn't as strong as I was expecting but there is a strong connection between them.

I liked that there is plenty of intrigue and unexpected happening.

The narration was very disappointing. The character voices were poorly done, it was really hard to tell who was speaking and the female characters sounded male. The overall delivery was OK but the narration detracted from my enjoyment of the book.

Horrible book and narration..

This has to be one of the worst vampire books I’ve ever read. Tara is dying from cancer and she’s accepted it so she decides to meet up with a vampire, who have all come out to the public. Of course they ask each other questions and he can smell her disease, how nasty and sour it smells. Eeww. Then she asks him if he can drink her blood and he tells her it wouldn’t taste very good but he could do it, and he did. Eeww, again.

At one point they were discussing sex and he’s telling her how much better it would be with him. Needless to say, they go to bed and all it amounted to was a quick bang. Yeah, the sex was so great with him it took about a page of description. So, lay on the bed, kiss, put it in and have an or*asm instantly and done. There’s the sex.

I didn’t feel a bit of love or affection between Dru and Tara, not even a second of it. Neither of them had one thought of their feelings. It wasn’t a romance at all. I will never read this author again. This could have been a good book if the love had been believable and the dialogue hadn’t been so silly and boring, and it had been written by someone who knows how to write a vamp book.

As to the narrator: I have 598 books in my audible library ( well, 599 with this one) and I can honestly say that M R Keen is the worst narrator I have ever had the misfortune to listen to, at least until I couldn’t listen anymore. All he did was read the book in the most boring voice ever. The hero and heroine, (everyone really) sounded exactly the same and his tone NEVER changed. He was horrible. I stopped listening at 27% and read the rest.
