About this listen

The first book of D Day Through German Eyes has fascinated listeners around the world with its insight into the German experience of June 6, 1944. Now, book 2 contains a completely different set of astonishing German testimonies from the same archive.

These newly translated eyewitness statements by German veterans show the defenders to be determined but psychologically insecure, often deluded in their thinking, and all too human in their shock at the onslaught they faced. These unique interviews with German soldiers are a historical treasure trove of new insights, heart-stopping combat stories, and glimpses of wartime psychology that will absorb anyone with an interest in WW2.

Eye opening and very well done..clear and concise and I was taken back to all of the films that I have seen of that battle throughout the years. Made me think of how one sided they were.

Nothing like it

The bill is probably unique. And the reader may well be, too. Recommended highly. It will long stay with you.

Excellent

The random details contribute to the believability of these interviews. I was struck by the way these guys focused on a narrow purpose for what they were fighting for. The higher up their view, the more complex and nuanced. However, with the perspective of looking back, they always conclude with their duty and personal innocence. I think that is how most soldiers are with the exception of the criminals

Interesting and informative

This book expanded my understanding of the events around D-Day. In particular, the composition and quality of the static troops and the attitude of some of the local French population.

Great second part to the first book

Great second set of stories. Some interesting subjects are discussed which are not commonly discussed in other historic WWII books

Have Listened to Books 1 & 2 Several Times

These two books contain numerous different stories from the German soldiers perspective. Nothing but the brutal truth. I hope there are more books to come.

Why the german accent?

These are incredibly interesting stories, but why are they read with a strong german accent?

A view from the "other side".

Would you listen to D Day Through German Eyes Book 2 again? Why?

Yes I would. I have also listened to book 1 many times and enjoy it just as much.

What other book might you compare D Day Through German Eyes Book 2 to and why?

D Day Through German Eyes ( Book One)

What about P. J. Ochlan’s performance did you like?

His German accent is great. He speaks with feeling and passion.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The common German's impression of American Soldiers.

Any additional comments?

I have spent many hours studying D-Day History but I was absolutely blown away at the perspective from the other side. I learned so many things that were NOT taught in American History books. After listening to the many hours of first hand accounts from average German combat soldiers the "History Lessons" should literally be re-written to be all inclusive of what really happened at Normandy that awful D-Day.

Fantastic

A MUST HAVE!
I purchased both books for $1.99 each and another $1.99 apiece for the audio. I would have paid $100 for them.
