About this listen

An assassin falls for the archduke she was sent to kill, but killing him might be the only way to save his soul.

Magic has two immutable rules - every spell requires a sacrifice, and every curse can be broken.

Amira Brindonu is a sorceress turned assassin, bound in a curse that forces her to obey her father, even to the point of high treason. When he orders her to kill the future emperor, she fails, but discovers a secret that could bring the whole of the empire to its knees.

The archduke is stricken by a curse that could sentence him and his people to damnation, but Amira could be the only key to breaking it. In a desperate last-ditch effort, the archduke takes Amira prisoner and makes a pact to protect her from her curse if she will help free him of his own.

As time begins to run out, Amira soon learns that there are enemies that blades can’t touch, and there are fates worse than death. Caught in a web of sorcery, intrigue, and her growing feelings for the archduke, the assassin must decide just how much she is willing to give to save the only man she’s ever loved.

Every curse can be broken, but can two cursed people save each other?

Beauty and the Beast meets The Witcher in this fantasy romance that is sure to delight fans of Sarah J. Maas, Kristin Cashore, and Leigh Bardugo.

Tough Love

This is an intriguing fast pasted love drama. Where their demons don't play so well together. That's just the start.

Simple but nice and refreshing

I stumbled upon Elisabeth Wheatley's funny videos and it made me buy the book. I was not disappointed at all :) It is a bit simple story, borderline YA, but I enjoyed it very much and I will definitely buy the next books in the series. I like the characters, the story is interesting enough and maybe some surprises are waiting in the next books :)

Great book and great reading!

I loved this book. I'm looking forward to starting the next one in the series! I love the detail put into the voicing of the different characters and the consistency of the production quality the whole way throughout.

Compelling

I thought I couldn't become immersed in a story anymore, but this book proved me entirely wrong. Amira and Daindreth had me completely obsessed from start to finish. Already starting the second book, with the 3rd in my queue.

No dragons yet… but the assassin is pretty awesome!

I have watched several of this authors reels and just got around to reading her book (first I had to figure out she had a book for me to read but that’s probably my own fault). Quite excellent is my verdict and I plan on starting the second book shortly as in a couple of minutes. :)

I appreciate the parallels with Ella Enchanted

From the first few minutes, I noticed the similarities with Ella Enchanted (the book, not that injustice of a movie) and enjoyed how this book manipulated them around and made it much more empowering.

Can’t turn it off!

I bought all five books in paperback and read through them. I guess a part of my brain wasn’t satisfied with that, so I had to get them in audio next. Author does a great job with pacing and voices.
The story pulls me in needing to know more. Highly recommend!

Pronunciation?

Even only by chapter 6 words like scintillated and scion are pronounced with a hard C like "skintilated" and "skyon". Surreptitious pronounced as "surreptityus" insteash of '-shus'. The story, setting, and plot are amazing. Though it is hard to focus past these obvious blunders. Further, for a writer who also makes YouTube videos doing accents, it is odd that narration lacks emotion. "The king bellowed" (as if he were hiding from someone) / "the queen screached" (flatly, and without emphasis). Perhaps too early to judge a youtube/author/narrator's fist foray only in the first book... Will review the rest
