Vampire hunter Sam Harlan at it again.

Here we have a glimpse in the life of vampire hunter Sam Harlan. In this episode Sam is set against witches and demons, which are quite outside of his normal purview. Sam and his Sister-partner Callie are sent by the church to find a missing girl. It is soon made clear that the situation is much more dangerous than thought to be. Sam is continually reminded that he knows little of the paranormal world, surviving by the skin of his teeth and the Grace of God. This is an exciting and fast-paced adventure, urging me to find the first two volumes to catch up on the action. Although this is book three of the series, and not having read the first two volumes, it was still able to stand on its own without much trouble. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.

A solid 3rd book in the series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The story line, as with the previous book in the series, is an interesting take on the vampire hunter genre. I thought the characters and dialog were engaging and the narration was good too. All in all, a very enjoyable book. I will definitely look to continue the series.

A vampire hunter...

I wasn't sure at first but as the story continued I got more vested. The main caracter is a man with a vampire blood. He's not a vampire but would be if he died instead he has a cravin for meat and anger issues.

The story has plenty of plot twists yet is still easy to follow and intriguing. The characters are personable and some despicable. Its a great mystery that had me guessing all the way through.

Best one yet.

I thoroughly enjoyed this edition of the series and thought it was the best one yet, though I still miss Jack!

So this one sees Sam and Callie called in by the church to investigate a missing girl and as Sam says "Vampires. They're everywhere. It's my job to stop them. A woman is missing. Hell, isn't there always? The church thinks a vampire is involved, but it's much worse than that. Much worse. Witches. Why did it have to be witches?" - Sam Harlan. Poor Sam has his work cut out for him when he realises that witches are involved and life is about to become way more complicated for him.

As I said, even though I miss Jack, I feel like Sam is finally becoming the strong character he needs to be. I connected with him a lot more here!! Callie meanwhile has her own troubles to deal with, but she still manages to keep her faith throughout. She really is one kick ass sister!!!

The plot was fast paced and intense. Sam and Callie are faced with a new threat with the witches and need to work quickly before it's too late for them. Sam might just need to call in The Sheriff to help! One thing I love about this series too, is what happens to the hunter who kills a vampire, it's unique and adds a little more suspense to the overall story. I feel like Sam is a ticking time bomb and I can't wait to read more!!

In all, this series surprised me a lot, with how much I enjoyed them. It's been too long since I've read a good Vampire story, and these ones are great. Bring on the next one!!!

David Loving was great in this one. He read this really well and his inflections brought the story to life.

Excellent supernatural action novel!

A Sam Harlan Novel, Book 3
By: Kevin Lee Swaim
Narrated by: David Loving
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
I love this series! If you haven't read any of the other books you could probably read this and not get lost, the author catches you up but there might be spoilers.
This has vampires, witches, magic, suspense, terror, and lots of action! The characters are well developed and I love Sam, even if he is turning into a vampire, and his sister-in-law that is a nun. His writing draws you in and makes you feel like you are there, fighting along side him, and boy is that terrifying! Love this series so much!
The narrator is terrific! Clear voice and performs the voices perfectly. Keeps the mood and emotions flowing with the story! Wonderful!

Paranormal, Demonic, and Supernatural All at Once!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

There are vampires (they would need to be as Sam Harlan is a vampire hunter...), but also good (white?) witches, and bad ones, demonic forces and evil fantasy creatures. There is also lots of blood. Lives are lost, not only human ones. Sam continues to forge ahead in his mission not only of eliminating bad vampires, but also all evil, apparently a new twist for him. I have not read the previous books, but this story worked as a standalone for the most part. Some of the characters could have been more defined, but overall the story is a good one and written with skills. I would have preferred a little more emphasis in the narration, but still pleasant to listen to. A good choice for the genre.

Solid urban fantasy.

Damned Cold is a solid urban fantasy, but I must admit I had a bit of trouble deciding on a review score. In the end I decided to round up a bit. After all the issue I had with it was my own fault. You see I hadn't realized it was the third book in the series when I started listening, so I must confess I felt a bit lost as to who the characters were and what had befallen them in past volumes. That being said I the story itself is quite good and now I am interested in going back and checking out Sam's earlier adventures, which will likely make me appreciate this book more.

The book is narrated by David Loving. I've listened to a number of books he's narrated and must say he has a very distinct voice which I thought worked quite well for the genre.

Best so far

This series is getting better and better. Really enjoyed this story a lot, the author is really building a good mythos with plenty of action. Narration is perfect throughout.

Vampire Hunter!

I have to say that I have not listened/read the previous books in this series. I did not realise when I picked this audiobook that it was third in the series. However, I felt that I did not miss anything from the previous book since the author explained things in this book, everything made sense.
This story was actually a lot more interesting then I expected. It reminded me a bit of the movie, the last witch hunter.
I really liked it and I would recommend it.
There is some profanity and violence.
