About this listen

At long last, the legendary New York Times best-selling author returns with a heartfelt novel of womanhood, a wild heart, and the healing power of love.

Run, run, as fast as you can!

When life throws her one setback too many, midwife and young widow Tess Hartsong takes off for Runaway Mountain. In this small town high in the Tennessee mountains, surrounded by nature, she hopes to outrun her heartbreak and find the solace she needs to heal.

But instead of peace and quiet, she encounters an enigmatic artist with a craving for solitude, a fairy-tale sprite with too many secrets, a helpless infant, a passel of curious teens, and a town suspicious of outsiders, especially one as headstrong as Tess. Just as headstrong is Ian North, a difficult, gifted man with a tortured soul - a man who makes Tess question everything.

In running away to this new life, Tess wonders - has she lost herself...or has she found her future?

Timely

Great story and memorable characters. I'm from Maryville, TN and I've met some of the personalities in the story. With recent feminism news and concerns, Tess Hartsong is a relatable protagonist.

Strong start - looooong middle - great ending

Susan is one of my favorite authors so it was a one-click choice to get her new novel. I have to say though that this book took me weeks to finish and in the middle part of it I considered giving up several times. Glad I didn't though because it finishes strong. Just felt dragged out and repetitive for a while.

I always love her books

SEP always creates such great characters. You can’t help but cheer them on and laugh at their wackiness.

The wonderful character development.

Absolutely one of my favorite Audible books so far. The characters, the flow and subtle humor were ideal.

Not SEP's usual story

I've been a fan of SEP since her first story about the football team the Stars. Each of her books have an underlying lesson but they have always been sections that have made me laugh until there were tears in my eyes. This story was all teaching and no laughter. I plowed through to the end but it wasn't fun.

Loved it!

I haven’t read an SEP for many years....but with all the quarantine and all- I gave it a shot! Absolutely loved it! I spend a lot of my coronavirus time listening to Audibles in the pool...jumping around and free dancing and exercising...and it really seemed appropriate to engage with this book:)
