About this listen

From the bestselling author of Wish Me Home comes a heart-racing tale of resilience and hope.

When Sadie Harlan visits her daughter, Lauren, at her summer internship in Yosemite National Park, it seems like the perfect way to forget about her empty nest and failing marriage back home. But when the two women get lost on what’s meant to be a short hike, they suddenly find themselves fighting for their lives.

As they search for food, water, and civilization, they battle injury, exhaustion, and natural predators. Sadie, however, is assaulted by more than just the unforgiving elements. She lost her first child years earlier in a tragic accident, and in her sorrow, she’s pushed everyone away - including her husband. Now, Sadie must face her past through a journey of love, loss, and learning to forgive herself if she and Lauren are to stand a chance at getting out of Yosemite alive. Will a mother’s courage be enough to save them both?

Don’t run from a bear!

A naturalist would know the first rule when you see a bear is DON’T RUN! I don’t think the author ever acknowledged that. Otherwise, good story.

Dancing with the Sun was just okay

I read the description on ‘Dancing with the Sun’ and I was really excited to read it. When you’re a mom and don’t have the greatest relationship with your child, the best thing that can happen is being forced to be together..all alone. That happened in this story...*I don’t want to give away any spoilers* so let’s just say Sadie is the mom, Lauren the daughter who doesn’t have a great relationship with Sadie...and Sadie decides to visit with her. While at the same time Tom is Dad & hubby which Sadie believes is not going well.

So yes mom & daughter get together, but not all goes well..but it’s not what you think. It was a nice read but it wasn’t what I really expected..also a son is mentioned but not enough..and it had the usual ending as most books like this do..

Narrator was ok. She only had 2 voices to do..wasn’t bad, but okay. I would recommend it but it didn’t have the WOW factor I expected.

Powerful story

Dancing with the Sun by Kay Bratt is powerful story of family relationships. A mother, who is dealing with empty-nest syndrome and her college-age daughter go on a short hike and end up lost in Yosemite National Park. Bratt does a great job of portraying the emotions and reactions of the women as they struggle to find their way. Dancing with the Sun is a story of forgiveness and second chances, a story of a family in desperate need of healing and restoration. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audiobook and Christine Williams did a great job narrating the book, which made for an interesting listening experience. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Great story of a mother and daughter

Loved the setting of this, and the overall experiences even though you may wonder how things went so bad if you haven't been to the park. Mother and daughter relationships maturing is a difficult process.

Mother Daughter Wilderness

I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
I am torn on leaving this review. I would leave a 3.5 star if I could. I see most people have left a 4 or 5. I liked this book, just didn't love it. I struggled with Sadie's character at times I thought I would do that for my children but then she seemed to selfish. I thought the daughter Lauren was well written and true to life. The way the story unfolds about the son I found very annoying.
Christine Williams is the narrator of this book and she was wonderful. In Fact she is the main reason I finished the story. Her voice kept me going.
