Publisher's summary

Aislinn Killeen is a good girl. When her sister goes missing during a trip to New York, Aislinn leaves her hometown, Dublin, behind to search for her. She finds shelter with her uncle, a priest in the city's biggest Irish-Catholic parish and also the confessor for the Irish mob. Her investigations soon lead her to the criminal underworld and one of its major players: Lorcan Devaney.

Lorcan Devaney’s reign is brutal, his temper feared, and his patience nonexistent.

Aislinn is sure he’s the man who knows what happened to her sister. She realizes too late that attracting the attention of a man like Lorcan is a horrible idea. When secrets from her family’s past are revealed, she’s forced to marry the man who might be responsible for her sister’s disappearance.

Will she find her sister and escape the unwanted marriage, or will she be the second Killeen to disappear?

Good story

I did not care for the male narration in this book. But the story was good and could do with less adult scenes.

Others are better

The male narrator was distracting. Did he desperately need a nap the whole time he was recording? The fmc was the idiot kind of virgin. So naive that her stupidity drove the plot. But she was very very kind. There were lots of adult scenes which I would have thought were good except that I wasn’t invested in either of the main characters. The family is interesting so I might try the next book in the series but not if it has the same male narrator.

Great story, but male narrator was hard to listen to

I’m looking forward to the series. However, I was very disappointed with the male narrator’s accent. It was hard to tell what he was really going for and didn’t sound or makes sense for his background. Unfortunately, this will keep me from my friends this book more than once.

Sweet story of perseverance!

This story isn’t an easy one to like. Except that Aislinn and Lorcan as the two lovers that overcome many of life’s challenges, make it worth listening to!

Looking forward to book two. This one was a page turner for me. I loved the characters. Finn was adorable. Spicy scenes.

So disappointed, Cora

Not worth a credit. I have read almost all of Cora Reilly’s books/audiobooks. I felt assured of a good read every time.. I was so very disappointed with the start of her new series. Not much of character development. The dialogue was trash. Story not believable. Can you imagine the head of a mob calling for an Uber? Neither can I. The narrator was not very good. Cora usually has good or great narrators portraying her characters. It wouldn’t have redeemed this book anyway, but a bad narrator can ruin a good book. I have vision difficulties and thus rely on audiobooks.

Below Cora Reily standards

Unfortunately, "Dark Innocence" falls short of the standards I expected from Cora Reily. The storyline lacks the gripping intensity and emotional depth that usually make her books so captivating. It fails to keep you hooked, doesn't tug your heart strings, nor does it evoke the usual range om emotions - from flushed to excitement to empathetic connections with the character. The main character, rather than being relatable or intriguing, comes off as naive and entitled, invoking more frustration that sympathy, instead of the usual charm and wit that draw you into her previous works, this book leaves you wanting more - more depth, more character development, more of that signature spark that makes you smirk, laugh or feel deeply. This was honestly a dissapointment. It's not at all like Reily earlier books that make you eager to listen to more. With three more hours left on the audio book, I found myself reluctantly cutting my losses. Cora you can do better. Perhaps it's best to cut ties with this series and move on to something that reflects your talent
