About this listen

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series comes a romantic comedy about instant attraction, second chances, and not-so-little white lies.

Sometimes I need an escape from the demands, the puck bunnies, and the notoriety that come with being an NHL team captain. I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am.

Lainey is the perfect escape from my life. My plan for seclusion becomes a monthlong sex fest punctuated with domestic bliss. But it ends just as abruptly as it began. When I’m called away on a family emergency, I realize too late that I have no way to contact Lainey.

A year later, a chance encounter throws Lainey and me together again. But I still have a lie hanging over my head, and Lainey’s keeping secrets of her own. With more than lust at stake, the truth may be our game changer.

I enjoyed this audiobook and a big part of it was the narration. It was top notch! The narrators were perfect for the characters.
The writing style was also easy to follow & the characters were likable. Especially the FMC. I also happen to love any book that gives a realistic look at postpartum life (which is much longer than just the first 6-8 weeks.)

I really enjoyed this book. Listened nearly straight through in a day, then stayed up way too late to finish. I really liked both of the main characters, and wanted to see them find their HEA!

Lainey is a great combination of nervous, anxious, and independent. She's no damsel in distress, but she's flawed and completely lovable! Rook is sexy as can be, but he also has a heart of gold.

The narration for this was fantastic. I really enjoyed both narrators. They really became the characters and brought through all the emotion of this story!

Great series starter!

A-FRIKEN-MAZING

Most of the books I read consist of dark suspense and whodunnits, so it’s nice to read something pleasant once in a while and this was a very delightful story. The chance happenings, summer fling, steamy compatible sex, head over heels reciprocate love and happy ending, this was a nice break from the darker stories I read. I’m looking forward to Book 2.

Love! Love! Love!

In this book we meet R.J. and Laney. Laney is a girl determined to show not only her parents but herself that she can make it outside their protection. R.J is looking for something normal. When these two meet there is a connection neither has ever felt before. Both are slightly guarded for their own reasons but feel like they can be themselves around one another. The only problem R.J isn't giving his full name or his true occupation. When a family emergency comes up is this the end for the or just the beginning of their journey? I would highly recommend this to anyone and everyone.

So So Amazing

There was a lot of feelings here, and I loved it. Not all were pleasant–there’s some grief, some fear, and thanks to the lies from the title, quite a bit of resentment too. But the good outdoes the bad.

Comfort could be the main theme of the book. By being together, caring for each other, Lainey and Rook both offer comfort to each other–to soothe Lainey’s fears and to bring Rook something he never knew he needed, real love. Comfort and reassurance and support are thrown all over the place, even by side characters. It was beautiful.

And of course, there’s a lot of love. The love between Lainey and Rook burned somewhat slowly before exploding, and then the embers keep burning for a long time. I enjoyed the fact that it was a second chance but we got to see the first meeting as well in a long and delicious flashback. We aren’t forced to accept their love at face value. We actually witness the spark. There’s also family love and how it can be toxic. There’s friendship too.

The characters were entertaining, especially Lainey. You’ll get to learn some weird stuff about aquatic mammals for sure. She was also a compelling character who shows a lot of strength despite her constant fears and anxiety. Rook, with his devotion and loyalty, was also quite interesting.

The audiobook was fabulous, with two of the best narrators giving all their talent to the dual narration. They both had a good timing for the jokes and knew how to bring emotion to their reading.

If you enjoyed the Pucked series than you’re going to love this book. We get to see the crazy and lovable characters from that series as well as meeting some new players. I thought both narrators did a great job and I look forward to more books in this new series.

I love Helena Hunting’s work and A Lie for a Lie didn’t disappoint! A fabulous storyline that included a little steam and a whole lot of sweet, with two flawed characters finding their way to a true HEA. Loved the hockey elements, although hockey was more background than setting in this story.
