About this listen
The only problem you will have with this brilliant and inspiring novel by Terry Thompson will be laying it down. It is a spellbinding story with many great lessons of courageous leadership. Its contemporary resolution of the mysteries of the end-times will give you chills. Every few years, a particular Bible-based novel commands the attention of the Christian world. This is it for this decade.
Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, national television personality, and New York Times best-selling author
Daniel was just a teenager when he was taken captive by the Babylonians, never to see his family again.
As Daniel and his friends strive to make the best of their unusual circumstances - slaves in the king's court - they also fight to honor their vows to the one true God amidst a people who worship only false gods. During his lifetime, Daniel saw the fulfillment of God's promises, prophesied of the Israelites future as well as ours, and led pagan kings to God. From slave to the highest position in the king's court, Daniel shows how God can use an ordinary person to do extraordinary things.
Terry Thompson brings the book of Daniel to life with extensive research into the lives and customs of the Hebrew people, and he even opens up the discussion for the prophecies that have yet to be fulfilled. This book is a complement to an intensive study on Daniel and the God Who is still faithful to protect his people.

Story
David, new shepherd and youngest of eight, doesn’t want to fight. He wants to disappear, to be alone with his sheep. His brothers mock him, his father ignores him, and even the sheep he protects flee him. Yet, he was born for more. Yahweh has called him beyond the fields of little Bethlehem. He has called him to greatness. Saul is king of Israel. Chosen by Yahweh and anointed by Samuel the prophet, he leads the fledgling nation as he defends its borders with shaky hands. Chosen and anointed he may be, but he is also a failure.

Great story and I appreciated how authentic to Bible and history author was, but the narration was lacking. Narrator made the young folks and all the Babylonians sound like idiots. He had great voicing for narrator, but not the acting skills to carry this book.

Narrator kinda ruined the characters
The story line is great! The narrator does not do different voices well. He made King Jahoakim (sp?) sound like a sniveling mouse. He spoke through his nose for other strong characters.
Overall it wasn’t terrible, but this would have been better done with a full cast or a narrator who can smoothly perform differing characters.
Still, it’s worth the credit to learn about this important character in the Bible.

How to Walk with God in Exile
By the 2nd Chapter I was thoroughly engaged. The format is unique, switching between a modern day professor and student dialogue and a dramatization of the story of Daniel.
If you are looking for insight into Daniel's world and a firmer grasp of what he would have experienced at that critical juncture of Israel's history this will go far beyond your expectations.
If you are looking mainly to be entertained you will be disappointed. Like many reviewers I was underwhelmed by the narration, but the strength of the material itself, the knowledge I gained about Israel's history, culture and daily life of the time, and the connection I made to the source material so outweighed the entertainment value it was not even a contest.
If you are looking to deepen your faith and to imitate and develop Daniel's convictions and walk with God you will find a thorough explanation of how those convictions could be built and the preparation he was privy to that informed them.

Great Content -- Unfortunate Voices of Characters
Great story but I almost couldn't finish because of the unpleasant voices of the characters. Narration is fine until narrator attempts to perform different voices. Many of them are painful to listen to. The sample isn't bad but it is not indicative of the rest of the book. Not everyone can be a voice actor - sorry sir!

Good story
I like the subject, Daniel. I was sad the reader sounded like the cast of Rudolph and the Isle of Misfit Toys. But once I sped it up to 1.2 and accepted the trial of listening to the entire story with this narrator, it was worthwhile.

Enjoyed the story and the narration
This was definitely a historical/informative book so be prepared to learn! I enjoyed it. I also didn’t mind the narrator, though I see others weren’t such fans. I enjoyed how it was more a production than a standard audiobook.

Horrible narration
I saw the warnings on other reviews- but I am one who can usually get past bad narration. Sadly I just couldn’t do it with this one.
Like others said- the narrator himself is probably great- but the theatrics they tried to incorporate were unbearable.
This book sounds so great- I might have to actually read it!

Horrible horrible narration.
Seriously I wanted so much to listen to this book but I could not handle the narration one more chapter. I finally gave up after chapter 5. What the heck happened to using a focus group to test if people are going to like the narration?

Narration was UNBEARABLE.
The worst narration in the history of narration. The quality of the actual book was lost on me because the narration was so distracting. The characters sounded like anxious muppets. I am quite fond of muppets, actually, but in this context it was unbearable.
Reviews on Amazon were very misleading and I think had to be fake (or family members). I should get my credit back.
